Sociopathic criminals aren't to blame for how they are. They aren't really in a position to change themselves nor have they decided to be this way.

Therefore the only punishment should be taking away their ability to harm others by limiting their freedom.

But if this is the sole punishment, I think hardly any would choose death. Why would they, if they could live a comfortable yet supervised and limited life? Key point is comfortable. That's not what the vast majority of prisons are today which means allowing them to choose suicide is more or less a coerced death penalty if we'd just slap it onto the current system.

This is misinformation.

The law is an extension to existing "Stand Your Ground" laws that applies to theft of commercial electronic telecommunication machines used to perform wireless financial transactions. The owner of these machines or someone employed by them may use reasonable force to prevent the theft, which does include shooting the thieves if the owner believes their life is in danger.

The ""loophole"" refers to the fact that this applies to suspected thieves too, with the Texas Supreme Court ruling that "[at] most one innocent suspect may be shot at. The owner must do his or her due diligence to prevent targeting multiple innocent individuals."

Everyone's hands are clean. The workers at Raytheon producing weapons that kills Palestinians, the people who finance that through taxes, whoever flies the plane or steers the ship delivering the weapons to Israel and even the American soldiers training Israeli forces with the new weapons.

Everyone of you can give plenty of reasons why they're not at fault. My German ancestors did the same in 1945. They "didn't know" or they couldn't have done anything against it or they voted for the social democrats in the last election or or or...

To be fair, although Zangendeutsch is commonly used for shits and giggles the reaction to English words hasn't been this way since some time after Reddit.

It evolved into an ironic !askouija@lemmy.world style complete-the-sentence thingy where everything goes.

Two reasons:

  • Sleep data can give some information on your health but isn't regulated as strictly as health data. Health data == Money
  • Companies want your time and attention. TV manufacturers want you to use your TV as much as possible, social media companies want you to use their platform as much as possible, video game developers want you to play their games as much as possible. Nintendo successfully gained people's time when outside through Pokèmon Go already. Now they're trying to expand to your time sleeping. There's not much time left which isn't utilized by companies somewhat. Maybe there will be a Pokèmon School/Work soon?

For those unaware of German politics, the S is for decoration purposes only, because "Party of Germany" sounds silly.

Piggybacking off of this comment, if you happen to enjoy Minesweeper, I recommend:

14 Minesweeper Variants

No guessing is required to solve any puzzle either, despite some variants seeming completely impossible.

Fun fact: There's an achievement for stumbling across a level with a conpletely empty starting board, without any spaces being revealed to be mines or non-mines. Yes, that can be solved without guessing.

Fun fact 2: I'd argue there are more than 14 variants.

Why would you use a linear approximation, this clearly looks like exponential growth (for the last 9 years).

Linux will obviously achieve 100% market share within the next few years.

Switzerland has:

  • the lowest amount of area per km of track, except for micro nations
  • a fairly low amount of population per km of track - among the top 10 if population density is considered
  • lost less than 10% of tracks since its historical peak
  • a majority nationalized rail network
  • (as you mentioned) a fully electrified network

While I haven't travelled in Japan by rail (or any other mode), I have been to Switzerland. From what I've heard, in Japan there are many smaller local stations, where an ancient train arrives a few times a day.

Whereas in Switzerland, it seems like nearly every local station has at least one train per hour.
