My Orbitkey was beginning to fray since I've had it for over five years. I made a replacement for the old canvas from 5 oz veg-tan leather. I've had my old wallet for a year and half. It was the first thing I ever made and I've never been completely happy with it. It worked well enough but there were small details that always bothered me. This week I made a new wallet from ~4 oz veg-tan leather and gave it some color. I was originally aiming for a sage green but I still need more practice dyeing which means it's now a dark green. I decided to wet form my pen into the front pocket of the wallet so it's less likely to fall out. I'm very pleased.

I am a father to a preschool age kid and frequently travel on airlines. This kit is meant to all fit in the tin allowing me to put it in my pocket along with some keys and I'm good to go. The bandages and sewing kit are for playground accidents and the shout wipe is for airport food accidents.

In the front two exterior pockets, the sewing kit fits in on the left and the Knipex fits in the right.

It's basically a mini commonly used hardware and medication pouch. I use fishing line for sewing in situations where I need strong thread, and I have various size needles in there too. The Altoids Smalls tin has a few of my most commonly used medication for me and my family. The Rolaids are for my heartburn unfortunately.

What lightweight, practical flashlights would people recommend?

I want something that I could use while camping, dog walking, and general day-to-day tasks (finding something under the bed for example). Currently I use my phone torch, which isn't particularly practical. My previous (battery powered) torches have died after too short a space of time - I want something that will last.

One with a clip would be handy, so I could attach it to a cap.

I see lots of ones online with insane lumens. 1000 lumens seems like overkill for my purposes!

Not too worried about price (within reason!)

Last day with this gear before I switch to the seasonal gear for fall and winter. Gonna be a lot of orange starting tomorrow!

I normally carry a backpack because I like having some extra inventory slots for things like my wireless headphone case, pen, notepad, and occasionally a portable charger but I have been wearing a pair to work and quickly realised how capable they are for a majority of what I do.

Ideally I'd like something relatively durable maybe with internal pockets or organiser loops to hook a pen to.

I feel like I recall Rotcho and 5.11 selling cargo pants but I don't know if they are as good as some of their other products.

So let's say someone let my Douk-Douk soak and dry in the air after doing the dishes...how would you rescue the blade? I thought about removing the rust with some rust remover and adding an acidic patina after that but not sure how well this works out.

Any recommendations?

Due to local restrictions on blade length (2.5"/6.35 cm) when I go into the office, today's knife is a Civivi Baby Banter with my well worn Olight i3T. The Rite-in-the-Rain is a new gift from a friend and fellow Scout leader. I'm really liking it.

Been carrying these for about 3 years now. Love them. I've carried other lights, pens and knives but this is my most functional yet light setup.

I've had my GOAT multitool for a couple weeks now. It's big feature is swapping the tools, but it has other advantages as well. The spring-loaded pliers are great and they use a "frame-based" spring that should hold up to heavy use. The bit driver will hold every type of bit (standard, double-ended, Leatherman, etc.) reliably and is somewhat offset toward the center, similar to the Gerber Center-Drive. One end of the tool is flat and reinforced to act as a light-use hammer. All tools can be removed, which means you can adjust the GOAT with the built-in Allen wrench and sharpen it with the built-in metal file. It includes a replaceable-blade X-Acto tool.

An inobvious, but potentially huge innovation, is making the tool and scale templates open source. Anyone can produce additional tool implements that will work in the GOAT. That could be a game changer if it catches on. Think about specialty toolsets for different professions, for example. Likewise, optional scales can be produced in any material or design.

The downside is that the current GOAT is clearly a first-generation tool. The tools clump badly. The "tool removal levers" clump with the tools, which can be a real problem. The pivots have to be carefully adjusted so the "springs" (the frame backs) will hold them all inside properly without being too stiff to fold out. The lock release mechanisms are awkward.

I would not have been comfortable carrying mine as it came out of the box. Fortunately, most of the issues can be fixed, or at least improved, with very little effort. Maxlvledc did a wonderful video on YouTube that talks about the issues and provides suggestions on how to address them. It was a big help to me and I recommend everyone with a GOAT watch it.

The things I did to "fix" mine were fairly simple. I added a thin shim washer (5x8x0.2mm) between each of the "tool removal levers" and the other tools. I re-arranged which tools were where and removed the washer next to the wood saw. Finally, I loosened the pivots a bit to help hold the tools inside the frame. (It seems like that should work the other way, but the pivots need to be somewhat loose to let the "springs" do their jobs.) Now it works quite well.

What do the rest of you think about the GOAT?

Looks like Leatherman posted a preview video for the Arc multitool ahead of the imminent launch. Are any of you thinking of buying one of these to EDC? It looks good, but not sure if it is that much better than my Charge+ TTi.

If I can't fit it in my wallet I'll forget it and then it won't be EDC.
