A big chunk of the US favors rule by a minority white group that they see as being of the "right" kind of Chrisitian denomination, and are willing to toss democracy for fascism to get that. A lot more don't believe how bad the situation is because the press hasn't been running headlines like this.

It's worth noting that a lot of these people don't simply see him as able to bring about "the right kind" of christofascism. They buy into these worldviews, because they see a world that is (to them) changing quickly. The false dichotomies they grew up with (e.g. male and female, black and white, men work and women stay home, Yahweh vs. Satan) are crumbling, so they see a strong-man as being able to restore the glory days when things were simple.

They're so blinded by fear and rage, they can't see the dystopia they're selling their freedom to buy.
