I have spoken to a voter of Trump who formerly was in my circle. I honestly asked her what the reason was. Her answer?

"I just don't like the other party."

That was it. Now I imagine besides the obvious cultists, that people treated the general elections like as if we're voting on two sports teams, that people had that same exact reason. "Oh I just don't like that other party" all while having the blankest of stares, the breeze between their ears and the stoic walk of automated activity as they confidently and blindly voted for the wrong party.

She was sugarcoating her bigotry and here you are questioning everything

"my mind generates words to say that make me win every encounter"

"I must fully understand psychology for it is impossible for others to be wrong -- perhaps it's my understanding of the cosmos. Perhaps they are victims of a grand campaign of misinformation. Nobody would disagree if we had the same facts, right? I must retreat to my haven in the mountains and meditate of mankind."

Some people hide it? Duhhhhhh.

People are primarily driven by emotion. Some people almost exclusively so.

You can't really convince people of things with facts and figures. That's like trying to heat your bedroom by making a bonfire down the street.

We're all emotional, and all of us sometimes follow our feelings over more rational motivations. But a lot of people are pretty much all emotion, and they vote for bad policy.

Emotions are important to a full inner life, but letting them decide how you behave is a sign of immaturity.

People are primarily driven by emotion

Some people are driven by emotion, some driven by facts and logic. The balance has shifted to the "poorly educated" who are helpless against Putin's psyops and Republican manipulation - "They are eating the cats", indeed.

I think it's important to recognize none of us are immune to emotion. We're not Vulcans. Some people are a little better about keeping them in balance, but even that depends on factors like "did you get enough sleep?" and "do you feel secure and safe?"

If you stress anyone out long enough they're going to become more emotional driven and less coolly rational.

Even Vulcans can be emotional depending upon their health and other circumstances. Vulcans still have emotions, they’ve simply learned to keep them in check (pretty effectively most of the time).

The human race can do this too, but we’re nowhere near ready.

How did the conversation actually go? Because my immediate question would have been "why was that your deciding factor?"
