I think I'll avoid this company from now on

Why didn't you just say that then? You don't need to use the Bible to justify your political opinions.

Judaism in it's current form isn't the same Judaism that existed before Christ. After Christ came, Christianity was formed due to prophetic fulfillments and modern-day Judaism came from doctrine trying to explain away what just happened (as some dude showed up, fulfilled their prophecies, claimed to be God, was crucified then rose from the dead), notably the talmud. So we could equally say we're as old as Judaism. Kind of like how the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Church both claim to be the oldest- but they split 1000 years ago and both have changed quite a bit since

We're not talking about Jews here, we're talking about Christianity

What did you do

Why should we ban books?

It's still not comparable to political manifestos though that encourage or seek to normalise certain ideas though, like mein kampf trying to advocate for discrimination against Jews

There were different sects. Sheoul was a thing that was mentioned several times as well. Revelation also makes it clear:

Revelation 20:12-15

And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

No, the State of Israel isn't dictated by the Old and New Testament canons of scripture. Jews also use the Talmud and fully reject Christ. You cannot claim that abortion is okay in Christianity because the state of Israel - a Jewish country - have it legalised.

[-] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 5 points 2 days ago

No, it's the opposite. Purgatory is a new thing. It's not mentioned in the Bible at all and only really came up in the last 1000 years. Not even the Eastern Orthodox believe in purgatory.

There's zero mention of a baby being present. Verse 28 says she will be free to conceive. The Hebrew just mentions the same that her womb swells up and she becomes infertile and inflicted with heavy periods, which would make her "unclean". Also, the State of Israel isn't a Christian country, so I don't see how that's relevant.

The Epistle to the Romans and other Pauline epistles do seem to show that non-believers do generally go to hell.

[-] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 7 points 2 days ago

The Bible does portray hell as the default, such as saying all have sinned and have fallen short of the Glory of God, Jesus saying He is the only way to The Father and saying that you're saved by grace alone and not by works

must include copies of the Pledge of Allegiance, Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights;

What? I can understand if it was the Christian Creeds, but what does this have to do with the Bible? Also, the King James version is a bit unwieldy to children. Why not a list of approved translations? And why leather bound?

Hi, I'm running a ubuntu based backup server. And was wondering if there's a simple way to encrypt my drives in case they get swiped or something by a break in. But also in a way that the computer can be restarted and decrypt the drive without me needing to stick a key in everytime. Any ideas? It seems basic but I'm not an expert on all these newfangled encryption terminology, so would like something idiot proof (by idiot proof, not idiot enough to lose/forget the decryption key)

Just a wonder on how you'd spend it. I'd probably buy up some land and build a nice village or town kind of similar to Poundbury. I'd probably sell houses at a fair price but only to people who send in a CV and seem to be upstanding people who actually want to work and be a part of a community, as well as giving them a mortgage Then I'd have a nice mansion and pretend to be a Lord where I can look over my wonderful tenants and maybe buy them Christmas gifts and send them birthday cards. Help them out if they need it.

Basically what some Lords did centuries ago but probably more kinder. Oh, and the place will be built with nice old timey architecture as well. Probably cobble streets because screw cars lmao. I just want to give people a nice life I guess as well as LARP as nobility

Hi! I've done some research on self hosting Matrix for Matrix Bridges on a Raspberry Pi 5. Some people have said online that Matrix will be too beefy for an RPI due to large federated chatrooms and information. However, would it still be worthwhile installing just for my own bridges for social media, and maybe as a secure way for friends to interact?

Thanks in advance!
