That's because the source is not any news reporting but an actual operation from a government agency.

Anyway, this video has some footage:

https://youtu.be/JnbRZSvUlfo

The video also claims:

  • there was no refrigeration for their food and both the ingredients and cooking utensils were all laying on the floor

  • they only had tap water without "water treatment" (not sure what they mean by this, as tap water is supposed to already be drinkable, although in some places in Brazil it definitely isn't)

  • there was a 60/40 split in their payments, with the company keeping one portion for themselves to cover the cost of bringing them over and keeping them there. The rest was paid in Chinese currency so they couldn't use it in Brazil.

According to an article in Portuguese:

  • beds didn't have mattresses

  • up to 31 workers per available bathroom

  • no lockers or any available space to keep personal items

  • no payment at all for anyone who decided to quit, except for the ticket back to China

When a comedian becomes good enough at doing a Stephen Hawking impression, you don't suddenly expect them to start publishing science studies.

And to think that this all started because Gabe was afraid that microsoft's "app store" would hurt Steam so he decided to fully embrace Linux to in preparation. I bet not even Gabe expected back then that the situation would be as it is today.

If he's only looking at the front page, why is he even buying the newspaper? Can't he see it just by walking in front of the place?

I gave up on duolingo very quickly because it had a ton of clearly wrong stuff too. Drops and Rosetta Stone have much better content for learning German.

Just because the best thing might have been easy to answer, I want you all to think a little more to recall what was the second best thing that happened to you this year.

Why is it framed like it's something extreme?

Rule of thumb:

  • are you making fun or otherwise mocking someone?
  • are you doing it for any "bad reason" whatsoever?
  • are you doing something that is/was primarily done by others for "bad reasons", historically?
  • are you doing something that other groups started doing as a replacement for something else that they were not allowed to (that you are)?

I'm half asleep so I may have forgotten something but if I didn't, then answering No to all of those should be the minimum thing you do.

Fun fact; Hitler is in the good place.

... It was a technicality.

Flashback:

Architect: "man this Hitler dude is so awful, whoever kills him goes to the good place, no questions asked."

Because the American left would be considered right wing in most of the world.

Anything exciting going on in your field of work this year? Or breakthroughs in science, new technologies developed, things like that.

The best thing about lemmy is that it brings back things like this that I often thought about and really wanted to find again to be able to fill the gaps in my memory, but couldn't remember enough about it to be able to find on Google.

Its not the first time it happens to me. Anyway, thanks op. I had given up hope on finding this one again.

Some news that would be completely mundane today but scary or shocking in the past.
