Oh, damn, I didn't notice this was OM. I wrongly assumed this was the main website.

Please, see the linked thread on the community for official communication.

Feel free to rant and vent in this lemmy-thread, but don't speculate or "give good advice" to the operations-team; they know what they are doing.

I moved all pictures created with MapComplete and hosted on Imgur to our Panoramax instance. You can read a bit more about the process and some discoveries here

This is a browser feature called 'service workers' which indeed allows websites to keep a process running for e.g. notifications.and pending updates.

Can be highly annoying. Visit ‘about:serviceworkers‘ to see the installed ones.

Because the northern hemisphere is mostly land mass and the southern hemisphere is mostly ocean. Land heats faster and cools faster than ocean, thus the seasonal effects are more pronounced in the data.

Same with CO2 patterns which gives a similar yearly 'breathing effect'

Shoutout to https://f-droid.org/en/packages/deckers.thibault.aves.libre/, which shows your pictures on a map without any cloud service.

Your title is a big lie. "One simple step"?

  1. Install left gate
  2. Install right gate
  3. Add traffic signs
  4. Add pedestrian icon to street

See, this is at least 4 steps! I call bullshit!

In all seriousness, this is indeed great. Next step is to remove some of the now unneeded asphalt and replace it with greenery

What is important to you ;)

There are many interesting datasets in OpenStreetMap which I try to make visible and editable with MapComplete.

Of course, general information (should as shop info) is what matters the most to most people, but it really depends on the usecase.

Hi!

I'm the main dev of https://mapcomplete.osm.be (and also one of the modsof this subcommunity). I have a long train journey ahead of me today (and next week again). The ideal moment to answer questions from other OSM-contributors.

So, shoot!

HI all,

Sorry for spamming, but seeing that the other OSM-post got quite some traction, I wanted to point out that the OSM-community here is coming to life as well.

You can post your beginner questions into the newbie friday thread or brag about your mapping projects into the showoff sunday thread

At last, please post OSM-related content over there! We need to get this party started...

Did you recently (or not recently) map a cool area that you want to show? Something you are proud of? Post it here! A little explanation of why it is cool might help as well.

Hi!

OpenStreetMap is a map that anyone can edit and anyone can freely reuse. It has a huge ecosystem, and can thus be a bit confusing to edit or to work with.

I thought that having a weekly thread to ask all beginner questions would be nice for everyone interested, so - go for it!

If you know the answer to a question, please answer (so that I don't have to answer everything).
