Anything else is just the illusion of choice. They control the options. So they can always come up with something worse to set next to the option it wants. The only influence you have as a chooser is to call thier bluff. If you don't you might as well just let have whatever they want.

In this case, I hate to ask more of our service members. But I know I can count on them to fight back. Choosing zero is calling them to service once more to protect the freedom of our nation. Specifically thier freedom to use the benefit they were promised when they enlisted. And I have faith that they will rise to the occasion.

Sounds like it is only anonymous if you fully trust the app. That app has all your information, and the site you are trying to access. And I bet it is completely closed source. It also likely has logs about what sires it is giving information to. Not who's info in that log. But elsewhere it probably has logs on who's id it verified. Get access to both, and software can start to crunch the numbers and figure out who went where. That if course is assuming they don't decide in the future that it is worth just keeping that data together in one spot. There is just no entity that could manage that app which wouldn't have a motive to use the data and power it has.

I expect the party that ran on protecting trans kids to take a stand. But I am done supporting the democrats now.

In this arena, more regulation is needed. Anonymous age verification is a good idea, but I question the actual anonymity. It usually depends on trust of some entity. And I just can't fathom an entity that can really be trusted.

I thought AI meant we didn't need all these tech workers? /s

Voting systems are extremely hard to change in most states. But progressive candidates usually support voting changes too. So two birds with one stone. It will be a painful few cycles with the Republicans winning. But they have shown they will turn on each other rather fast. And once we show we just aren't going to vote democrat or republican, momentum will build. Things can't get much worse.

I do know the feel. I was young once (seems a long long time ago). Reinventing the wheel was fun and challenging. I loved creating libraries. I didn't actually know at the time that there were already existing libraries I could just use, this was the 90s. But it is hard to keep track of what library code exists in a project if you didn't write it. Maybe assign them to review the library code and document it or something. Then they will know what it is at least.

Human nature. Itcwas necessary to beat out the other species, but it didn't evolve with society. Many of the things other people have mentioned are really just unevolved human nature. Greed, selfishness, racism, crime.

I guess if there was any doubt before, it's gone now. Neither party is suitable. Time to really vote progressive. We need a new party that isn't deeply entrenched with whatever made hime sign that.

I'm lost. He spoke against it, but signed it anyway. Did they give any rationalization for signing it?

Personally, I am sad that is all it takes for you to believe something. Businesses, media, governments, and more are trying to make people believe things (unrelated to luigi) that aren't true. You need to raise the bar, not lower it. Maybe you want to believe he didn't do it, but I hope you don't actually believe that based on so little information.

That worst was just before it fell (2008), not when it was already low.

I want to make a satirical poster, but the generators I tried kept putting an image that looked nothing like the person. I see so many of these I thought it was trivial to make one. And I totally support it clearly saying it was AI generated. Not trying to fool anyone, just want to make a joke. Edit: not looking to edit a photo. Just want to make a political meme.

What alternative ways can you think of to handle making legislation and passing laws that would negate the increasingly polarized political climate that is happening in more and more countries?

So they say that sitting too much shortens your life and all that. They also say that most of us sit incorrectly. I know I do. I constantly slide my butt forward and slouch. And I was thinking, what I need is a seat belt to keep me from sliding forward. But such a thing doesn't seem to exist. There must be some problem with them that I am missing. Since Lemmy has lots of desk jockeys, I figured I would ask here.

The wife and I are getting older. We have been working for decades at this point. But we are too young to retire, and we had kids late. But one of us could totally switch over to a lower stress second career. Ideally something with benefits, maybe even a chance to get a pension. And since we still have kids, needs to be flexible. One of our kids has autism, so lots of random doctors appointment and stuff.
We both work with computers all day. What are some good options for a second career that doesn't need to have long term growth potential. We have 8 years where ideally both of us are working so we can cover each other with benefits if something happens. After that, the kids are out of high school at least. So it isn't like it would be a "short" term career/job. Just not a 30 year thing. And ideally, something that could at least partially be done at home.

Newberg has been the center of a political maelstrom over the last few years, beginning with a conservative majority on the school board banning political symbols, pointedly targeting Black Lives Matter and Pride flags.

The same school board abruptly ousted Phillips' predecessor, Superintendent Joe Morelock, in March 2022. They hired Phillips a few months later, despite the fact that he was coming off a string of controversies connected to his work in other Oregon districts.

The guy the conservative school board appointed superintendent to own the libs, turned out to suck at his job. At least the people were smart enough to vote out the conservative school board. But sounds like they were too late.

Could the blue states just ignore orders from the white house? Like if he orders them to round up illegal aliens? What could trump do about it?

I know the board has some fiduciary duty, but can a company put some guardrails on it when they go public, like saying the environment will always come first, or employees or customers or something?

It's been a grey winter, and looking to stay that way. I work remote, so I was thinking of getting an SAD light. But I remember from years ago when I had one (and worked in an office) that if I put it next to my monitor it gave me a headache and made my monitor hard to see. Those of you using SAD lights, where do you put them, how long do you use them per day and all that?

of course he suggested $1

When I am in Jerboa on any device (phone, tablet, pc) and I go to my profile and click on posts... it is empty. Yet I have of course made posts. Is there something I need to do to get it to save my posts? Comments has my comments.

what movie has the greatest turnaround. Like all hope is lost, people are fleeing or whatever, and something happens, then everyone rallies and of course wins the day.
Its in tons of movies, usually pretty cheesy. But there must be some that do it right. What are they?
