I don't have it installed right now, as I've been trying out a FOSS reader for a while now on my new phone, but there is a troubleshooting section about syncing on their site, and also they recommend this guide made by a user discussing sync troubleshooting.

It's not a feature I've used, so maybe those guides have something you haven't tried. Since you replied to me though, I feel partially responsible for making sure you get helped now. 😅

It's interesting how they are using this case.

US vs Watts decided this wasn't a violation of so, but it's still a crime of which they were not found guilty of beyond a reasonable doubt.

The 2 situations used in the case was a man being charged with possession and also with growing marijuana in his home as 2 separate charges,.and a womannhlwho had been acquitted of selling cocaine once, who was then later convicted for selling cocaine on another occasion, but was sentenced for both.

Memo from US vs Watts

In the case this post is about, the guy was coerced into a confession where evidence proving his innocence was withheld from the defense, and the judge still thought he was getting off easy and convicted him of selling crack and the murder of a cop during a drug deal.

It sounds like now even though he's acquitted of the murder, they're still trying to keep him in jail on the other added on charges, if I'm reading things correctly.

Did Superbowl make the cut? 😉

I kinda wish they didn't keep the pun as a few have blocked it not knowing what it's really about.

There's just not enough stuff to focus only on subscribed only, and there still seems to be a good number of new communities popping up.

I do have most meme communities filtered out, as it was just too overwhelming for everything else, but that's about it.

I want to see all the threads I can where I may have something to add to help other communities develop.

I'll check Subscribed quick at the end of the day to make sure I didn't miss anything that I really do want to see.

It is a fishnet pattern keffiyeh (Palestinian headdress), as she seems to be wearing it around a lot to appear as the most pro-Palestinian candidate.

From NPR

Some say patterns on the keffiyeh symbolize different aspects of Palestinian life: the bold black stripes on the edges symbolize the historical trade routes that used to go through Palestine; the fishnet-like design represents the Palestinians' ties to the Mediterranean Sea; and the curvy lines resemble olive trees, a major point of pride for Palestinians.

Though none of these claims can be backed up by historical evidence, over the past 10 years they've become embraced by Palestinians in the diaspora to be the meaning behind their keffiyeh's patterns.

The full report lists suggested practices to mitigate the damage we do, from more ecologically minded agricultural practices and shifts in our diet to accelerating development and funding of renewable energy and delivering it to the third world, as they are many times left with only the worst fuels to use for everything.

It's all things that require large amounts of money with great long term but no short term benefits for those with money, a slight bit of personal inconvenience as we as societies learn more planet healthy habits, and a small amount of compassion for those less well off than us, most likely due to a lack of compassion in the past.

I will not be holding my breath...

The full report is worth a glance, as it's divided into sections where it looks at individual continents and discusses some of their unique problems. I mainly stuck to reading the proposed solutions sections, as I have reached my limit on dealing with all the different impending dooms going on recently. Even the countries that are doing some good changes are still not fully committing to it, even as they see positive results. We're past the point of being able to wade into this stuff. But with worldwide societies trending towards more selfish and nationalist tendencies, I feel things will continue to worsen for the remaining half of my life.

I try not to be a downer about it, but it's hard when I see and read about it every day.

Gang members “came in shooting and breaking into the houses to steal and burn. I just had time to grab my children and run in the dark,” said 60-year-old Sonise Mirano on Sunday, who was camping with hundreds of people in a park in the nearby coastal city of Saint-Marc.

Similar ones [gang attacks] have taken place in the capital of Port-au-Prince, 80% of which is controlled by gangs, and they typically are linked to turf wars, with gang members targeting civilians in areas controlled by rivals. Many neighborhoods are not safe, and people affected by the violence have not been able to return home, even if their houses have not been destroyed.

More than 700,000 people — more than half of whom are children — are now internally displaced across Haiti, according to the International Organization for Migration in an Oct. 2 statement. That was an increase of 22% since June.

Port-au-Prince hosts a quarter of the country’s displaced, often residing in overcrowded sites, with little to no access to basic services, the agency said.

This is a key difference that certain parties leave out when discussing "illegal immigration." These people aren't coming here to take your country or your job or whatever you imagine the case to be. They are asylum seekers, not just from Haiti, but anywhere that this type of situation is daily life. They don't want to come to America, they want their own homes to be safe, but they are not, nor will they be in the foreseeable future.

If anyone in America, England, Germany, Greece, etc was in the same situation, they would be doing the same, because no one would want to live in that or to put their families through this. But all those that want to close off the borders to these people are swatting away those hands reaching out for help. All these major countries did things to help create the situations these people are trying to escape from, but they refuse to own up to it. We did these people dirty and then we ignore them as they die for it.

It's just so frustrating to see, and to not see any country showing us a good example of humanity or compassion.

anon does not judge Drag negatively for having different preferences. anon understands why a dragon person may not enjoy the second half. anon also approves of the kitty. anon and drag find common ground.

I powered through as I kept hearing everyone recommend this. It felt pointless because I didn't get watching a cooking show about stuff you could never eat because it isn't real.

The comments I read said it took a tonal shift when they finally got back to the red dragon. It's about halfway through, which took me weeks to get to.

The second half is awesome! If this is what it was like all along, it would have been amazing. The first half gives you nothing to expect what the second half is, which makes it feel more intense, but I still feel is kinda terrible pacing.

I want more now because the characters really are good, which is probably why they used that first half the way they did, but it was tough before seeing where it was going. Frieren had a much better buildup before it really started getting serious for example.

I was thinking today about how I've been very pleased with my most recent set of work boots today and thought it could be interesting if anyone else had any particular favorite clothing items that they have really been enjoying.

Clothes are a very personal choice, as we're all built differently and do different things, but I'm curious to see if any trends show up in what we like.

I got the Keen Braddock Low Tops almost a year ago. I had a previous pair of Keen's imported boots a while back, and my new job makes us go through their provider instead of me getting reimbursed for buying my own boot of choice, and I wasn't thrilled with the idea of buying safety toes without getting to try them on first, as some can be pretty uncomfortable. I saw they had the US made Braddock though, which I had been wanting to try to see if it was an upgrade from the now discontinued boots I had from them.

I like Keen's because my old ones held up tremendously well. The thick rubber toe may look a little odd, but it doesn't scuff up like a leather cap boot, and it's asymmetrical so it fits my big foot better than many safety toes where both caps are the same shape. They feel very sneaker like, which is nice since my feet don't need serious protection from a super stiff and tall boot. I like the design is enough to be interesting, but nothing too wild.

These have been holding up very well, though I have 3 pairs in my rotation now, I also have a pair of leather CAT steel toe low tops and a pair of Carhartt composite toe fabric low tops. They each have their ups and downs, but the Keen is my all-arounder. It's not as light as the comp toe, it's a little bulkier than the leather boot, but it's the most comfy and feels to be the best built of the 3.

Edit: Just noticed the rules say the post needs to end with a question mark...

What is your favorite clothing item and why?

BBC: How decline of Indian vultures led to 500,000 human deaths 25 JUL 2024

More than two decades ago, India’s vultures began dying because of a drug used to treat sick cows.

By the mid-1990s, the 50 million-strong vulture population had plummeted to near zero because of diclofenac, a cheap non-steroidal painkiller for cattle that is fatal to vultures. Birds that fed on carcasses of livestock treated with the drug suffered from kidney failure and died.

The unintentional decimation of these heavy, scavenging birds allowed deadly bacteria and infections to proliferate, leading to the deaths of about half a million people over five years, says the study published in the American Economic Association journal.

“Vultures are considered nature’s sanitation service because of the important role they play in removing dead animals that contain bacteria and pathogens from our environment - without them, disease can spread,” says the study’s co-author, Eyal Frank, an assistant professor at University of Chicago's Harris School of Public Policy.

“Understanding the role vultures play in human health underscores the importance of protecting wildlife, and not just the cute and cuddly. They all have a job to do in our ecosystems that impacts our lives.”

The authors estimated that between 2000 and 2005, the loss of vultures caused around 100,000 additional human deaths annually, resulting in more than $69bn (£53bn) per year in mortality damages or the economic costs associated with premature deaths.

These deaths were due to the spread of disease and bacteria that vultures would have otherwise removed from the environment.

“The vulture collapse in India provides a particularly stark example of the type of hard-to-reverse and unpredictable costs to humans that can come from the loss of a species,” says Mr Sudarshan, an associate professor at the University of Warwick and co-author of the study.

It is amazing to see what a difference these birds most take for granted contribute to our success as a species.

Many find vultures to be creepy, but after learning about some of their amazing abilities and understanding why they've evolved to become what they are, they are superbly designed animals that excel at doing a very important job.

Halloween Meat Hand (lemmy.world)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by anon6789@lemmy.world to c/foodporn@lemmy.world

I don't know if you guys will like this or not, but I think it's fun. I was in a Beehaw thread talking about Halloween themed food, and most of the comments were they were either hard to make or looked good, but didn't taste good. That made me remember back to when I made the Meat Hand!

It's just regular meatloaf, so use whatever recipe your family likes, but instead of a loaf pan, shape it into a hand on a sheet pan. Top it with some sliced cheese before baking so it gets all crisped up and creepy looking, and cook it. Then place it on mashed taters.

I went simple, but you can add some panache with some onion slices for fingernails and a chunk for the wrist bone like in this pic I grabbed from Google.

It's simple, tastes great if you're into meatloaf, and some ketchup will give an added touch as some "blood" as well. And it looks pretty good for not much work. If you need a spooky Halloween dish for fun family dinner or for a party, give it a shot!
