Don't be a fucking asshole to young people... I'm in my upper thirties and a manager, we have open positions to junior employees and we actually put in the effort to train them and pay them well. They grow in skill and eventually become strong contributors... this is the way it was for us and we need to pay it forward.
Respecting employees, giving them legitimate and material opportunities, and not wasting their time or insulting their intelligence is one of the strongest ways to retain them.
The fun thing is that you can be lucky and get that first good job, but you're still going to be on the back foot in the housing market when competing against previous generations who have large amounts of existing equity.
43% of people in their twenties living with a parent is not surprising at all given how affordable things aren't.
In 2016, 13.5% of those between 30-34 lived with their parents, and it's been rising.
Also in 2011, 73% of 25-29 year olds have never been married where in 1981 it was 26%. I mean, how can you marry when you can't even get a place of your own? How will people even seriously think about having kids if having a home of their own becomes more and more of a pipe dream?
Then the aging generation will wonder why no one is available to take care of them with the ladder they pulled up at their side...
Why do you think we have a retirement home crisis already? Lack of funding is only a part of the problem.
It sucks out there. I got a good job right out of university at a growing company which put me in a much better financial position than many of those around my age. I'm in my mid 30s and while i could afford a small place, the idea of owning a multiple bedroom place or a house just seems completely out of reach. Pretty much everyone I know that owns in my age range has two incomes and moved away from the city.
I don't see how anyone younger than me has a chance to do it without help from family.
This is a major issue that could very well lead to massive social unrest in the coming decade
All its going to take currently is a precipitating event.
housing nods sadly from the shadows
affordability in general grins maliciously and backs out of sight into the hedges
