I don't see any links to the referenced study and it looks like they are comparing current parts of England to current parts of Germany that were once part of the Soviet East Berlin as opposed to comparing current day England to occupied Germany.

And in 2020, German areas also had twice as many railway stations per 100,000 people as matching English areas.

Yes, I've read now the original article and they totally misrepresented it. I'm going to stick a clarification

[-] themurphy@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Or, you know. Take it down, if it's misleading?

[-] albert180@feddit.de 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

There was already a discussion going on. The clarification is visible for everyone that clicks on the post, as it was posted with Mod-Mode.

[-] themurphy@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Fair enough.

You can edit titles also btw, if you didn't know. I didn't, because I was used to reddit before.

The Article is a bit misrepresenting. It compares former Eastern Germany regions today to England today. Thank you very much @SatanicNotMessianic@lemmy.ml for posting the University Press Release

[-] _s10e@feddit.de 8 points 10 months ago

What a misleading title! England slightly behind Germany.

[-] neshura@bookwormstory.social 15 points 10 months ago

England slightly behind worst regions of Germany would be more apt but yeah the title is severely misleading.

When you know the current status of such services in Germany, this isn't reassuring in the slightest!

[-] registrert@lemmy.sambands.net 7 points 10 months ago

That's... Something else.

[-] MrMakabar@slrpnk.net 20 points 10 months ago

To be fair East Berlin was among the best places under Communism, due to being the capital, the GDR being rich compared to other Soviet satellites and the competition with West Berlin.

[-] Quittenbrot@feddit.de 5 points 10 months ago

So, good for them (England), I guess?

[-] PonyOfWar@pawb.social 17 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Cold war era East Berlin wasn't particularly bad when it came to public services to be fair.

[-] Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social 5 points 10 months ago

Yeah, all you needed to do to get three hots and a cot is say you don't like the government, and these guys just show up and give you a ride.

[-] PonyOfWar@pawb.social 17 points 10 months ago

It's entirely possible to condemn an oppressive regime without pretending their trains were bad too.

[-] Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social 6 points 10 months ago

Yeah, I know. I was making a joke. I loves me some trains. I was watching White Christmas last night and trains feature heavily and it looks like such a civilized mode of travel.

The glory of public transit

[-] SatanicNotMessianic@lemmy.ml 13 points 10 months ago

Here’s a link to the university press release on the study, which contains the actual study.

[-] albert180@feddit.de 3 points 10 months ago

Thank you very much 👍

[-] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 8 points 10 months ago

Though at least they have the Data Grab Bill which promises to bring the police’s surveillance capabilities closer to Stasi level.

[-] SplashJackson@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 months ago

That's what happens when you win a world war
