Depending on how the U.S. Supreme Court ruled, he said, the party would ask the Republican National Committee for a waiver to hold a caucus instead of a primary election.
He still wouldn't be on the ballot for the general election in that case, so go right ahead and nominate him I guess?
Obviously SCOTUS will find a way to force Trump on the ballot here, so it's kind of academic in the end.

His campaign manager would be an idiot to have him swing through it serves no purpose and wastes money.
Whereas if he hold off until he's back on the ballot he is now the conquering hero.
