"It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country."

Duuuude, you are massively responsible for the country being a shithole. How is this at all incredible?! The incredible thing is it took THIS long for someone to take a shot at either of ‘em.

Several assassination attempts in USA history - Kennedy, Lincoln and a couple of others whose names escape me. Political violence has been part of the culture from the get go, when the Pilgrm Fathers set up their little isis-lookalike theocracy.

Yeah, I was wondering why it took so long. I thought the number 2 reason their redneck gun but types give for why they neeeeeed a gun is that they can assassinate their leader if they don't like them. Or maybe it's number 3. Dealing with trespassers, personally taking down an invading military, and assassinations are what I hear the most often

so tired so i'm heating up frozen stuff for dinner.

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 11 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Apparently someone tried to assassinate Trump

[-] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 12 points 3 months ago

I really don't approve of violence for political purposes, but I can't help but feel that the mongrel thoroughly deserves this or something like it. It's a pity the shot went wild. Apparently the shooter is dead according to the abc.

The real downside is that he's going to make political hay out of this - it's a real gimme for motivating his voter base. Maybe even to saint and martyr status.

[-] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

If the shot had struck home, he WOULD be a martyr. This is better

[-] SituationCake@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

Yeah but there would be no one equivalent to replace him, so the traditionalist republicans might have a chance at regaining the party back from MAGAs.

I sadly think that just secured a MAGA victory. When I saw the photo of a triumphant Trump leaving the stage whilst fist pumping and bleeding, I thought OMG this is going to send MAGA supporters even deeper into blind frenzy hero worship. Project 2025 here we go.

They keep replaying it over and over on the TV. Disappointingly they miss every single time.

[-] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 8 points 3 months ago

Was it staged? That pose at the end 🤢

Please please let him die. What a horrible thing to say but man I can’t see this all ending well if he lives.

Forgot there was wet washing in the machine still, so back to the Laundromat lol. All washed and dried and back home, took about an hour. Got a cheeky arvo coffee and had a wander around between Victoria St and Hope St.

I almost don't want to fix the washing machine, it's nice having this date time with my SO. No phones or anything, just hanging out.

Devoured a book in one day like I used to as a kid. So that's cool.

Downside is it was I'm Glad My Mom Died and I related concerning amounts with it. Need to process that, I guess. Good book.

Also I'm an absolute fiend for burritos lately. I want nothing more than to order one but I've already had like.. Three fast food burritos over the last 5 days and that's not sustainable.

It was a good book but gee it was hard to listen to (audio book). I felt so sorry for her.

I fried my brain and triggered myself into orbit reading The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk, about C/PTSD and how our bodies physically store trauma. 10/10, but damn one better be in a good, scientific frame of mind because the case studies are heavy.

I've been meaning to read I'm Glad My Mom Died, how did you find it? (Besides the subject matter, of course).

The kids have a massive flatbed tonka truck I'm constantly flipping on its side so it doesn't become my Skateboard To Hospital. It makes me feel like those guys they hire in Singapore to tip over open pots of water after it rains so mosquito's don't spread

I know its early, but I wish to access the wisdom of the DDT hive mind.

Do I :

    1. Make chicken & leek & potato soup, thus avoiding going outside in this shit weather, and generating leftovers for the forthcoming week, OR
    1. Purchase fish & chips, thus keeping small business afloat and ensuring that fish&chips will be available in the future when I really really need them.

Please be honest.

EDIT: Fish & Chips it is. Bless all of you, unto the seventh generation.

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Get fish and chips for energy to cook, then cook the soup and freeze in portions

Anti-gratitude thread.

Only slept around five hours last night and I can't be stuffed meal prepping. But I shall persevere.

When cafes are selling bowls of soup for 17 dollars and bowls of porridge for 19 dollars that's when you know the country has lost the plot.

Might as well be living in Argentina with this kind of inflation.

[-] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 10 points 3 months ago

I broke a drill bit in some wood and spent 20mins trying to get it out :(

SIL is trying to drive a wedge through the family and I'm being blamed (this is a story for another day).

[-] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

Is this same SIL that gave you such hassles over the wedding?????

[-] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 9 points 3 months ago

It is.

Absolute shit show.

I will have a rant about this shortly :)

[-] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 9 points 3 months ago

Looking forward to it. Could use some new adjectives.

I really can't afford to get sick this week but I kinda hope I am because today was a bit black mindwise and feeling really foggy..managed to catch up with family and that was nice. Glad I pushed to do that.

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 9 points 3 months ago

So Richard Simmons died, but Trump lives??

Make it make sense!!

I woke up okay but procrastinated on my phone in bed to the point of a throbbing headache once again. And now I'm nauseous and feel extremely yuck. Why did I do this to myself? I can barely think now. I'm sure I would've felt a lot better if I yoinked myself out of bed at 9 and ate and drank like a normal person. Then I saw the news headlines and my immune system probably decided to give up at that point.

I am doing my best not to keep thinking about how sick I feel and woe is me. I don't think I'm actually sick sick. Having some fancy shop bought minestrone soup to try and soothe the system. Need energy to do some meal prepping and then pick someone up from the airport tonight. I can do this...

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 8 points 3 months ago

I'm trying to imagine how I would feel if someone tried to assassinate me. I'm stuck on a complete inability to imagine anyone caring enough about what I am doing to make an attempt.

Today I will be making a loaf of olive bread and refurbishing some antique chairs, not fancy chairs, some solid arm chairs. I bought Japan black for the wood and a load of tapestries to recover the seat.

How is it fair that when I warn the Mrs she’s feeding the kid too much cheese that I’m the one that gets puked on?

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

Proposal: feed the kiddo cheese and give them back to Mrs Break. :D

[-] SituationCake@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

Oh nah. Woke up to the sounds of something scurrying and scratching in the roof. Possums? Rats? We get possums quite regularly but the sound they make is a bit of a thud when they run across the roof, and this sound Is different, like something is inside the roof.

Just had an Uncle Tetsu's cheesecake tart. Holy shit. Bad idea. It was soooo damn good I'll have to go back frequently

[-] wscholermann@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

I really should have taken my clothes down yesterday when it was still sunny, even if they weren't 100% dry.

Looks like a trip to the Laundromat is likely today unless it decides to stop intermittently showering.

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

Some bastard sat in my favourite seat in the break room and now I have to eat my lunch at a different table.😡
