I will confess that a month ago I said replacing Biden with Kamala would be a mistake. I was so wrong. She is absolutely killing it. She is bringing exactly the right energy and tone this campaign needs to take on Trump. She is not taking any of his shit but doing it with so much class it really does highlight how disgusting Trump and his goons are.

[-] Cadeillac@lemmy.world 90 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I was in the same boat. Basically the second they announced it a wave of relief washed over me and I realized this is what we need

Edit: I wasn't expecting so much interaction. I'm glad that she is gaining everybody's support, and giving us a bit of electricity needed to get through this final push towards election time!

[-] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 33 points 5 months ago

I'm honestly not a big fan of her and would have preferred to see someone more progressive get the nomination, but I honestly had the same feeling as you now that we actually have a chance at defeating Trump.

[-] Dearth@lemmy.world 22 points 5 months ago

If you want progressive candidates you gotta do community organization and outreach. Personally I'd much rather do praxis under Harris than Trump.

[-] baronvonj@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago

Have to get those progressives to run in the Dem primaries and show up to vote for them.

I was pretty distraught after the announcement, but within a few hours as the wave of support built, I came out of the hole and started feeling positive. So glad that the support fell behind so quickly.

[-] Infynis@midwest.social 10 points 5 months ago

It's almost like when you do what the electorate is asking, you earn their support! I sure hope the Dems finally learn that this time

I am relieved the conversation has broken free from simply voting against Trump to having a choice people might actually like. Proof is going to be in the pudding, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

[-] finley@lemm.ee 13 points 5 months ago

Oh, me too. And boy oh boy was I wrong!

Harris was a prosecutor, and a successfully I hear, there was never any chance Trump would risk debating her on live TV. He maybe able to fire hose lies against Biden, but Harris would rip him apart, and the best part is, he knows it. He has nothing to gain from debating her, so he will come up with excuse after excuse to avoid it.

[-] solrize@lemmy.world 35 points 5 months ago

Harris ran for president in 2019 but did terribly in the first dem primary debate and dropped out early, fwiw. We'll see what happens vs Trump.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 62 points 5 months ago

Trump is easier to debate for democrats who don’t care as much about decorum as Biden. A primary debate requires much more delicacy, because you can’t all out attack the others without potentially prejudicing voters against your party’s eventual nominee, should you lose.

Biden did well in the latter scenario, because he’s very good at politicking. I think Harris would do better in the former because of her greater willingness to openly mock trump. Hopefully we get to see.

[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 16 points 5 months ago

Did she do terribly during the debate? I remember watching and thinking she seemed smart and articulate, but didn't have the name recognition and backing to get very far in the primaries.

Trump can't run to her left like most of the 2020 Democratic field did.

[-] magnetosphere@fedia.io 79 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Good for her. He deserves to be taunted, endlessly, about a LOT of things. Other things he’s done deserve much worse than a mere taunt.

[-] eran_morad@lemmy.world 46 points 5 months ago

I think the meme-ing and taunting are going to cause him significant damage - both his campaign, and his personal self. And I will enjoy watching him decay.

[-] girlfreddy@lemmy.ca 72 points 5 months ago

She should do what Clint Eastwood did at the RNC in 2012 ... debate an empty chair.

[-] Grabthar@lemmy.world 55 points 5 months ago

She should debate a puppet sitting on a chair, and express her disappointment that Putin couldn't be there to reach up its ass and work its mouth.

She should start by saying how her opponent missed the debate because he was golfing, which is what he'll do again if he's elected, golf all the time!

[-] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 13 points 5 months ago

Golfing was/would be the best possible use of his time in office. Concentrating on fabricating his score would distract him from worse evils.

[-] InternetUser2012@lemmy.today 71 points 5 months ago

Dementia Don the racist rapist with 34 felonies that can't complete a coherent sentence is just scared. He's too old and needs to drop out. He knows that she will absolutely eviscerate him in a debate.

Trump is the kid that throws the controller when he realizes that the final boss has two health bars.

[-] Aphelion@lemm.ee 43 points 5 months ago

Can he even reach the bumpers on a controller?

I like presidential candidates that aren't cowards.

[-] Minarble@aussie.zone 38 points 5 months ago

Run hard on calling him a chickenshit loser and demand a pre and post drug test for the debate.

[-] uberdroog@lemmy.world 36 points 5 months ago
[-] zcd@lemmy.ca 26 points 5 months ago

He's the Republican's giant pussy, afraid she gonna grab him

[-] ThunderWhiskers@lemmy.world 34 points 5 months ago

I know I'm reaching but it would be wonderful if they took this as an opportunity to turn the event into a town hall for Harris. Don't participate, lose your stage.

[-] rubicon@lemmy.ca 21 points 5 months ago

Have a bag of Cheetos as a placeholder on the other podium

[-] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

And make sure to add a diaper on the bottom and a little bandage up top.

If we want to bring it - let’s bring it

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 29 points 5 months ago

Thank you Democratic campaign, and media for finally starting to call out the Trump campaign when they make 2 conflicting statements in the same month. Trump's popularity comes from people selectively hearing what they want to hear.

[-] blackris@discuss.tchncs.de 21 points 5 months ago

Why do they quote the piece of shit Trump with his stupid framing? Crooked this, sleepy that … stop that!

[-] SeaJ@lemm.ee 20 points 5 months ago

Good. Call him a coward. Making him feel small is the only way to get him out.

[-] Myxomatosis@lemmy.world 17 points 5 months ago

Time to man up and be an alpha man or whatever it is MAGA screeches about incessantly.

I saw low penetration and immediately thought of couch height.

[-] elliot_crane@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

Fits donnie boy perfectly based on what Stormy Daniels has to say about it: https://web.archive.org/web/20240508055746/https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a23301515/stormy-daniels-donald-trump-penis-mushroom/

And I quote:

She describes Trump's penis as "smaller than average" but "not freakishly small."

"It may have been the least impressive sex I'd ever had, but clearly, he didn't share that opinion."

Certainly sounds like low penetrating power to me.

Anyway, now that I’ve researched a geriatric fascist’s small dick and low sexual energy in detail, I think I’m done with the internet today and gonna go touch some grass. Later y’all!

I just figure I have to get the link anyway if I want to read it; why not save others the time? :)

[-] Charlatan@lemm.ee 16 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I mean.... They're not wrong. Why the hell would he go get curb stomped now instead of waiting until she's technically gotten the nomination?

It'd be fun to watch the beatdown, but I doubt it'll ever happen.

The Trump camp released that statement saying "there is a strong sense by many in the Democrat Party - namely Barack Hussein Obama - that Kamala Harris is a Marxist fraud who cannot beat President Trump, and they are still holding out for someone better" on Thursday the 25th, the same day the Obamas enthusiastically endorsed Harris.

[-] whotookkarl@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

He's going for the Parker Brothers defense, if you can't win the debate become a petulant child and flip the board over.
