Thank you for bringing it back online, I was worried it might be down for a while! Welcome back :)

Nice to meet everyone by the way, I’m new to SDF, just getting to grips with stuff.

It wasn’t me (I don’t work for SDF😅)… it was @SDF@lemmy.sdf.org!

I ended up watching some new anime. Ranma ½ (2024) is kind of bonkers, in a fun way.

SDF is a quirky instance, isn't it? It might go down once in a while, but at least to me, it feels more like a community system than some of the bigger instances. I love that it hasn't made Cloudflare an observer and gatekeeper of our Lemmy activities.

Hey, thanks for telling me about the Ranma ½ remake. I loved it as a teenager, looking forward to watch the remake.

[-] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago

It's a top-tier remake. Gorgeous animation and lovingly faithful

[-] SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 month ago

Yep. Watched a few episodes. It's great.

[-] mox@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago

In that case, I think you'll appreciate the voice cast in this new adaptation.

Just finished chanting "S.D.F. come back" while kneeling inside a pentagram surrounded by stickers and magnetic tapes. Pretty good overall.

[-] scroll_responsibly@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 1 month ago

I smoked a pack of these in anticipation:

Thank you for your service 🫡

[-] nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago

That picture always reminds me of a SysAdmin that I worked with a while back at a DC. He was an old school Perl and BSD guy and always smoked unfiltered rollies.

[-] nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago

a pentagram

Oh! That's why. It's SDF, not your neighborhood technodemons. Should have been a bigram, so that the machine spirits could understand without converting numerical bases.

I listened to my intrusive thoughts and filled a cheap fountain pen with (dye-based) printer ink.

I hoped for the darkest black, but it actually looks gray when used with a pen :(

But yeah, it works. It feathers and bleeds through a lot on cheap paper, but it works. By that I mean that it bleeds even through 120g/m^2^ printer paper. Maybe I could try drying it a bit first...
Might look good with cyan.

[-] nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago

Oh no. Now I'm thinking about whether I can make fountain pen ink work in my ecotank printer.

[-] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago

I doubt it.

Although, I guess ecotank will have piezoelectric nozzles since they're permanent, so there shouldn't be a problem with how it behaves under heat, but viscosity (if that's the right word) and particle size...

Sounds like a bad idea.

[-] nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago

Probably a terrible idea. I do also have a sacrificial HP in the garage to rip apart and try to implement a FOSS/OSHW controller for at some point. Maybe I'll try with that eventually, supposing I can hack together a nozzle.

I suppose the server has to catch up now, right? There seems to be plenty of stale discussions.

[-] pmjv@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago

Welcome back, sdf family!

[-] hobbsc@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago

Glad I didn't notice. Welcome back, all.

[-] mariusafa@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago

Since I didn't have unix_surrealism posts I had to rely on my downloaded collection of Unix surrealism.

[-] KITA@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 month ago

Waiting for it to come back lol. Was this scheduled or is something going on?

[-] scroll_responsibly@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago

I couldn’t tell you because I don’t know, lol🤷‍♂️.

[-] dadarobot@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 month ago

I was just on my backup account on .ml There's some commandline tool i use to sync my subs between the two that runs on my server whenever i do monthly update/backup

[-] scroll_responsibly@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 month ago

That’s a cool idea… I should steal that! What’s the tool that you use?

[-] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 month ago

I went to my backup instance. Now I'll be on two for a bit I guess - I wouldn't want to leave anyone hanging.

[-] plumbercraic@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 month ago

I have decided that now is the time, finally, to read those Buffy and Angel comics.

Snuggles and kisses 😘

It seems to be lagging behind by hours.

For instance, this thread on lemmy.world shows 5 comments and 56 upvotes, while the same thread on lemmy.sdf.org has 3 comments and 24 upvotes only. And the weird thing is, I posted this thread from lemmy.sdf.org, as well as one of the comments, and outgoing is instantaneous. It's just incoming comments and votes that don't seem to come through.

[-] jawa21@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I knew something was up as soon as I couldn't vote on anything. Good to be back.
