Feddit.org is bilingual and has a lot of users participating on English-language communities. So maybe better to block the individual communities if you don't want to decrease the userbase you can interact with.
Oh really? I have only seen German communities coming from that. I initially thought it would be more than just that (considering .org
) but after so many German posts, I just blocked the instance.
Nothing wrong with the posts / communities itself, but I don't speak or read German so it's just noise to me
There are a couple active English-speaking communities there, like /c/europe@feddit.org, but you're right that most content on the instance is in German. It's more that their userbase is also pretty active on other, English-speaking instances and I'm pretty sure that by blocking the instance, you won't see any of those posts and comments either.
!technik@feddit.org is fun because most articles are in english, and if the first comment is made in english, then all the german comments get downvoted to hell. But if the first comment is german, english speakers won't dare chime in. It's a modern day battle royale of languages!
I don't think it blocks users from that instance when you block the instance, just threads posted to said instance. I might be wrong, idk, but that's what I read before.
Just tried this out, it seems you're right. TIL. Always thought it would be the local equivalent of defederation.
Do you have to block communities? I thought you could just not join them to avoid their content.
If you browse by "subscribed", you only see the communities you have joined. I sometimes browse "new" just to see what's happening now, and this shows all posts from any community (you haven't blocked). The sorting method "Active" is posts from 1-2 days ago and the content in "Hot" stays about the same throughout the day.
Thank you, I did not know that.
lemmit.online, just contains automated reposts from Reddit.
thanks, there's a reason I left Reddit!
It sounds like instead of 'disallow' list you want an 'allow' list feature...
browsing by subscribed content works like that. I imagine it looks like I'm blocking everything and everyone but I'm just trying to curate my feed to make it as less noisy as possible
If the internet upsets/bothers you -THAT- much... why don't you simply find a better hobby? I mean, the moment that (pretty much anything in life) starts to give you more stress/anger above everything else... that is where you should stop for a moment and rethink your life decisions/choices.
In other words... this is meant to be a distraction, not your third job.
I'm not upset about it, I'm just trying to receive recommendations on content curation.
Does scrolling past 5 posts that aren't even in your language sound like an appealing Lemmy experience?
I’m not upset about it,
You just mentioned about 5 posts not being an "appealing Lemmy experience". Only. Five. Posts.
It's time to take a break my dude.
What are you even talking about? They're curating the communities and instances they engage with. That's literally one of the core functionalities of the fediverse.
"YOU'RE NOT ENGAGING WITH LITERALLY WHATEVER IS PUT IN FRONT OF YOU. MAYBE YOU SHOULD STOP USING THE INTERNET!"
Omg I'm dying lol 🤣
Hey OP, I have a suggestion for someone to block... I'm going to block him as well.
