Father dead. Zero clue what to do with this information. Boyo no help would be celebrating demise of his.

I’m so sorry.

Condolences. Now comes the hard part - being kind to yourself and your immediate family. Which will be damned hard. Take time to process your feelings - either positive or negative. I found both. The one true purpose of funerals/memorials is that organising them helps to process those feelings. Be aware that other family members will have different feelings. The damned part is being patient with them and validating their feelings as well as your own. Don't shortchange yourself in that department. Take whatever time you need. Sending vibes to help when the feelings ambush you. Which they will do - usually when least convenient. Been there and done that myself. I found a grief counsellor helped me a lot after my bloke died during covid. The language of grief/relief can be grimly humorous too which I found to be an unexpected bonus.

I’m really sorry. Take as much time as you need to absorb, it can be complicated

I'm really sorry. Even when you know it's coming the death of a parent is really hard. Know that it's OK to not be OK for a while, but that you will be OK again. We'll all be here for you and do whatever we can to support you in our limited way.

Thinking of you ❤️

[-] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago

My condolences. I'm sorry for your loss 🙏🏼

[-] Eagle@aussie.zone 5 points 2 days ago

I'm glad for you all that his stay in pall care was not prolonged, and I hope that his comfort and care were exemplary. Grief is a funny thing, and you are among friends here. ❤️

I'm really, really sorry for your loss ❤️

Yeah… there’s soap powder residue on my cutlery so I’m having to rinse everything under the tap again before use. Hopefully it’s only because it was in the rapid cycle but there’s nowhere to put rinse aid in this machine and it’s not very convenient to load. I’m also having to put things on a dish towel or dish rack to finish drying.

Buyers regret. Like I am happy the dishes are getting done because it’s my hardest task but it’s also creating more fiddly little headaches. Pisses me off because of the money.

Guess I’ll use it in the meantime but will start saving up again and this time actually get something better, something I can see in person. When I get another one I can ask if anyone I know wants it or donate on Givit.

I had a sneaky late night choc cross buns. Bleh. The ones I get from Aldi have something chocolatey inside. The woolies ones I got don't, they just put cocoa powder into whatever mixture they used and got rid of the fruit

In Albury for the night on the way back. I've definitely had my cup filled (but already missing being out in nature all day and all night, and physically very tired from various tasks). It's an absolute oven outside. Thankfully the AC was running at my accom before I arrived so I'm just chilling for now (got a free upgrade to Queen, score!).

Debating whether to get a proper meal for dinner or just some ready-to-eat stuff from Woolies... Might splurge on the meal tonight and get some crackers and dip for breakfast and the rest of the drive home tomorrow.

Whoever signed off on the wedding dress outfit in Mario Odyssey was a goddamn genius.

replaying the boss fight and having the cutscene of Our Hero (tm) kicking the door in and interrupting the wedding with Mario as a spurned bride is fucking peak comedy

Today at the opshop I found an antique book of autobiographical travel essays, Across the Plains, by RL Stevenson. 🙂

Dammit. I have a split mail on my finger. Think I made it worse after snagging it on some clothing.

Got a spplit right on the side and about my probably 2 or 3mm long.

Put a Band-Aid on it for now so I don’t make it worse.

Have to abort my heat hibernation to go to friend kid’s birthday, I really want to stay under my air con.

They have a pool and told us to bring bathers so I will but dunno if I’ll get in. It’s so hot that I might. There will be pizza too.

Shops done. Missed Kmart though, so an excuse to go window shop tomorrow ig

Fuck shopping centres that half shit down at night time for no good reason. I went in the main entrance, as one does. That was open, but half way down was closed. Had to do a 10 minute detour around to the other side of the building to get to the supermarket entrance

I realise they probably try and justify it by arguing about all the closed shops, but it's really just ridiculous. It's such a car centric way of thinking

This happened at highpoint too where they closed the entrance from the bus bays and I had to walk about 20 mins iirc to get to the other side, and part of it didn't even have a footpath or the footpath just ended. It's ridiculous.

The Big BOM's cancelled the heatwave warning

Somebody should probably go outside and tell the heat. I don't think they've quite got the memo

Well that was a bummer.

TW animal death, mice

There was a mouse on the footpath in a really bad way. I scooped it into the empty paper bag I had avoiding touching it and carried it home. Was thinking to put it in a box with some water. Ended up leaving it in the bag because any moving really agitated it.

It wasn’t drinking from the plastic lid so I tried to give it water from an old syringe but that just made it more panicked. (I know you shouldn’t try to give wildlife water directly like that, you’re advised not to, I just thought at that point helping it drink something maybe outweighed the risks.)

I left it alone and the next time I checked it had passed. It’s buried now - in a far corner where nothing edible will go. Unsure if heat, rat poison or disease (no visible injuries) but I made sure to avoid direct touching and washed my hands.

Only a mouse but yeah :(

Melbcat was also sick on the bed while I was briefly out. I’m still trying to get her to give me a urine sample for the vet

[-] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 6 points 2 days ago

You gave it care and a quiet cool place in it's last moments. That matters, I think.

It's just been Mr Woof and I at home since the middle of the week, and at first he was super duper anxious, lying near the front door, waiting for everyone else. Last night, I went upstairs to my room to check the temperature, and he started fluffing up my bed to sleep on. He's only ever done that if my mum is in my room.

now he's enjoying the sun

Ok I have my torrent box set up properly now.

Downloaded 20gb in just over 5 mins!

After trying to work up the courage to get ready and then go to the shops for the last 2 hours, I've given up. The shop I want to go to requires a 15 minute walk, but is open late. Given that, I'll wait until it cools down a bit

[-] TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I have to go to the shops for foood. Pray for me.

EDIT: Thank you all for your good thoughts. I have returned unscathed, bearing watermelon and icy poles and lettuce and jelly. And boring bread & milk etc. We will survive this. The cool change on Sunday night/Monday morning will be EPIC!

Damn… yesterday after the dentist I got the local homeless dude the wrong drinks. I usually only give him some change and only briefly saw his sign, so got a bit confused and bought the wrong option.

It’s cool. I’m not down that way too often but now I’ve figured out the right thing.

(Now him, he’s fine. The people around here are usually harassing me or doing scary disruptive things outside my house, hence my defensive attitude and unwillingness to engage, but he’s chill and doesn’t bother anyone. I’ve always got a coin or two for him when I go past.)

Too hot to be hungry. For lunch I ate a bowl of diced mango with a scoop of vanilla icecream. but now I’m peckish, maybe shall make myself a Vegemite toast.

I've caved and turned on the portable air con. It's still really inefficient cause I can't really block the window. But I hung a sheet to try and block extra sunlight and some air getting though. These stupid blinds aren't helping cause they're rigid and the entire dimensions of the window

RIP my electric bill, again

I've got a smart metre thing so I can see my electricity usage, and the day I had the portable air con running for like 2 hours, I used 2kw more Ecotricity than my previous highest usage day. That is only like 80 cents, but still.

I never would have thought I'd prefer to stay in Queensland weather wise but even with humidity I'm regretting booking my flight back to Melbourne for tonight. I suppose I'll miss a day of it but my apartment is going to be a hotbox when I get back.

I took some pics of the mini dishwasher. Sorry there’s no banana for scale. They’re also kind of minimal because I didn’t want to post any clutter or my reflection. You will get the rough idea though.

I didn’t use the tap attachment but let me know if you want me to try that and take some pictures.

This is a large Corelle dinner plate.

You can fit some in at an angle.

Just load carefully. lol (showing size)

I didn’t take a pic of the previous wash but here’s one with the pet bowls.

You can see how I Tetrised in a lot of small items while there’s still heaps of unused room up top. That’s what I meant when I said it might have been nice to have an optional top rack. I do have clearance room for it to be a smidge taller.

There’s no cover to the detergent dispenser but eh.

Here’s the fill jug and the fill tray. You fit the lip of the tray’s hole into the water tank inlet hole and slowly pour into the tray.

The supplied fill jug has weirdly marked increments so just listen to the machine. Once it receives the 5 litres it makes a series of rapid panicked beeps. If it doesn’t do that and the tap icon is showing just keep pouring in a little more.

You can see the drainage pipe at the side - that just goes over and sits in the sink. There’s a suction cup to hold it in place or out of the way if needed but just draping it over does me fine.

Ps. I did reposition that ramekin at an angle before starting! Was just focused on getting the demo pics
