Misskey and Mastodon are two different types of open-source software for running a social media microblogging website that can interact with each other through the ActivityPub standard.

Bluesky is a similar but incompatible software run by a single company that was founded by ex-Twitter employees and is funded by billionaires and cryptocurrency scammers.

I think one reason has to do with digital sovereignty. Especially people in Europe are not happy with the dominance of US based social media sites and thus are more likely to invest time and effort into local alternatives. They are also more likely to be concerned about the near total lack of legal privacy protections in the US.

And yes, they are compatible with Lemmy.

After 3 years in the making I'm excited to announce the launch of Games on Whales, an innovative open-source project that revolutionizes virtual desktops and gaming. Our mission is to enable multiple users to stream different content from a single machine, with full HW acceleration and low latency.

With Games on Whales, you can:

  • Multi-user: Share a single remote host hardware with friends or colleagues, each streaming their own content (gaming, productivity, or anything else!)
  • Headless: Create virtual desktops on demand, with automatic resolution and FPS matching, without the need for a monitor or dummy plug
  • Advanced Input Support: Enjoy seamless control with mouse, keyboard, and joypads, including Gyro and Acceleration support (a first in Linux!)
  • Low latency: Uses the Moonlight protocol to stream content to a wide variety of supported clients.
  • Linux and Docker First: Our curated Docker images include popular applications like Steam, Firefox, Lutris, Retroarch, and more!
  • Fully Open Source: MIT licensed, and we welcome contributions from the community.

Interested in how this works under the hood? You can read more about it in our developer guide or deep dive into the code.

This is nonsense. A small static website is not going to be hacked or DDOSd. You can run it off a cheap ARM single board computer on your desk, no problem at all.

Not yet on F-droid, but looks pretty cool.

The southern states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg have been inundated, causing dam bursts and prompting dramatic rescues. States of emergency have been declared in several areas with more heavy rain expected.

Due to unfortunate circumstances the second mod here stepped down and I am also having issues properly moderating this lemmy.ml community due to various smaller bugs with federated moderation of Lemmy.

So it would be nice if someone, preferably with a lemmy.ml account, would be willing to help out.

This community is mostly uncontroversial, so it really isn't that much work.

Edit: We have two volunteers. I guess that is sufficient for now. Thanks!

The problem is that the so called privacy community is full of security LARPers that have no idea what their threat model is and in addition many snakeoil vendors trying to sell you (usually unnecessary or even counter-productive) VPNs etc.

So it's understandable that people get tired of these grifters and stop bothering.

Modern electronic music is the spiritual successor to classical music (and modern-day "classical" compositions are just rehashes).

@mrmanager@lemmy.today tagging users in the top post doesn't work. Only in comments.

The original plan was to make it valid both in France and Germany. Not sure what happened, but frankly the cost argument is ridiculous given how much money is spend on way worse transportation by the government otherwise.

Most importantly:

It’s not a typical consultancy and much of its success comes from how different it is: “We are a worker-owned cooperative,” explains Brian Kardell, [...] “We have a flat structure. There are no bosses, there are no shareholders. It’s our lives, our company and we want to work on something that is valuable.”

They also currently have open applications for a very nice paid mentorship program: https://www.igalia.com/coding-experience/

Maybe the best part of the FP5 that is talked about little is that the main SoC is not a consumer grade Qualcomm chip, but an industrial grade one that will get driver and firmware upgrades for a much longer time than the consumer ones.

In addition it is fairly similar to other slightly older Qualcomm chips that already have main-line Linux kernel support, so the prospects of running Mobian or PostmarketOS on it are quite good.

So besides all the (justified) Ryanair hate here... 3rd party ticket resellers are also scum and you should never use them.

I haven't bought a Ryanair ticket in a while, but on their own website it is AFAIK "just" the usual dark pattern trying to upsell you BS you don't need.
