Probably what happens in Charles Dickens novel, except everyone has smartphones now.

But tech bros don't think literature or history are important disciplines, so they don't even know what happens in a Charles Dickens novel.

I saw someone theorizing that this helps Republicans down ballot. They give the Dems the presidency, but having more Republicans showing up to vote helps house/senate/whatever local elections swing Republican.

Self-immolation as a form of protest has millennia of history behind it, especially in Buddhism and Hinduism. Ancient Greeks have records of it. The Indus Valley have records of it. Ancient Chinese have records of it. Tibetan monks set themselves on fire in order to protest for an independent Tibet. Norman Morris set himself on fire at the Pentagon to protest the Vietnam War.

Please don't reduce an active form of protest against someone's oppression as someone simply "killing themselves" and "shouldn't be celebrated". It's a pretty narrow and callous world view that may reflect your experience, but not of wider human history.

Would it be? I feel like his supporters would take it as a sign that they can also openly use it without consequences.

Man, I just wanted public tomato throwing back, not the whole medieval punishment arsenal.

I really liked Paris 🥲 I did go during the end of October though, so that might've have been a factor. People still didn't want to talk to me in French, but they weren't rude about it.

My favourite place to visit in France was La Rochelle, I feel like I got most of the benefits of visiting Coastal France but without the Marseille/Toulon/Monaco crowds (yes I know, Monaco is not France).

Yeah but the tape also covers the shitty microphone next to the camera.

Beat that, circlecuck!!

You realize both the Palestinian and Jewish people are descendants from the people that lived on the land back then, right? We literally have evidence of that.

Like, just because your RELIGION is Islam or Christianity, that doesn't mean you can't be GENETICALLY Jewish. In fact there's this whole thing WITHIN Judaism regarding ethnic Jews vs non-ethnic Jews...

You seem to be arguing about the Jews rights as a race, but conflating it to religion. Because if it was about "race", then Palestinians are entitled to the same land as Israel claims.

Discord is the primary voice chat platform for a lot of my gaming groups, and half the time it can’t even detect the correct mic or output. Also routing my calls to the phone app for no reason when I am clearly ACTIVE AND TYPING on PC.

I don’t need another messaging app, I need an actual seamless voice chat experience.

Is the gameplay the appeal of New Vegas? It’s my favourite of the Fallout franchise because I like the writing, and also I can kill almost anyone but somehow the story will find a way to go forward.

God I would kill (every NPC) for an Obsidian-made Skyrim.

I finished Nocturne last night and it was…eh? Well it’s half a show isn’t it? It’s the same as the OG Netflix Castlevania S1, where they set all the pieces up for S2, so I’m willing to wait it out and see where it goes. The 53% does feel accurate to me as a score honestly, even though I’d personally put it at like ~60%.

The highlight of the show for me was Richter and Maria’s interactions in episode 1, and I thought we would get more of that than we actually did. I don’t mind Annette, but like…I wish we got more RICHTER (and Maria, Tera, and Orlox by extension) and saved Annette’s story for later.

It also just …weirdly felt too rushed and too slow simultaneously. 8 episodes was not enough for the story they wanted to tell, and I wish they just focused on the Belmont side for now.

And most of that comes from private jet usage or large corporate manufacturing. But yes, go off on some random university student on Lemmy because -checks notes- I drive an old car.
