Not continuing this nonsense conversation, but let me add some context to your dogwhistles and outright bullshit for the mods and anyone else watching. Also, it’s hilarious how you can’t cite a single thing to back up your claims 😭🤣.

Zealots didn’t commit genocide, and no credible scholar says they did. You’re just making things up. The Zealots used violence and rebellion, but nothing they did comes remotely close to the ethnic violence carried out under Zionism. If you have a credible source (you don’t lol) go ahead and share it. (For the record, they did use terrorism, but that’s not genocide. Learn the difference.)

Zionism was secular from the start. Here’s a direct quote to shut this down:

“The modern Zionism that emerged in the late nineteenth century was clearly a secular nationalist movement. The most extreme secularists were openly contemptuous of Judaism or the Jewish religious tradition, thinking that Judaism had turned the Jews into a passive apolitical people, which is a state of mind from which Zionism should liberate the Jews.”
Source: David Novak.

If you want to argue that Israel isn’t a secular state, fine. But that’s not the point you asked about. You wanted the difference between Zionism and the Zealots, and I delivered.

Zionism, at its core, was a secular nationalist movement aiming to establish a Jewish state in the 19th century, while the Zealots were driven by religious motives in their fight against Roman rule. The fact that Israel’s modern laws don’t reflect that original secular vision doesn’t change the historical distinctions between the two movements.

You asked for specific differences, and I gave them to you on a platter. If you want to keep spouting revisionist nonsense without sources, keep it up—it just makes it clearer to the mods that you’re here for bad-faith arguments, not facts. 🥰

Hi, Swiftie here 🙋‍♀️

There are no good billionaires. Taylor Swift is not a good person due to her business practices. I have no defense of her and I would never say “she is one of the good ones.” I and most of the Swiftie circles I run in wish that she would practice equitable compensation in her tours (where she gets the vast majority of her profit), among other areas.

Taylor Swift is a capitalist, and that’s bad. There are thousands of artists and laborers being exploited by her every performance. All those laborers, stage hands, designers, arena staff, etc should have a say in how the massive revenue generated is distributed, and they do not get that say. That is bad.

As a majority male space, Lemmy has a tendency to slide a bit toward dunking on women and majority women’s spaces because you may not be aware that many leftist Swifties are just as critical of Swift as other billionaires. This post is a good example of that. (If you feel bad or called out by this, don’t stress it. I just want to gently course correct the conversation a tad 🙂)

So important that the memes get on top of this story and double down on this specific hypocrisy. Optically, this tragedy is perfect for the RNC to the point it could almost be staged except for the glaring weak spot that Republicans believe that the person who did this had every right to own a firearm. The memes need to absolutely rail at that chink in the armor and pretty much nothing else, otherwise this is nothing more than gained footing for MAGA.

The Great Famine was caused by British capitalists who, before and during the crisis, prioritized profits over the Irish people's welfare. British landowners forced Irish farmers to rely on the potato, making them vulnerable to disease. High rents, taxes, and lack of investment left Irish farmers impoverished. During the famine, British merchants continued exporting food from Ireland to England, and the British government’s inadequate aid policies worsened the situation. This exploitation and neglect led to the deaths and emigration of millions of Irish people.

yknow what fuck it, i support this. i was a little on the reactionary side back when they were throwing soup,

but after seeing hundreds of comments saying “just do if you want something done” and then seeing those same people turn around and say “but safely blocking streets in protest is an affront to my rights, stop being annoying”

…i get it now. it’s cornstarch and will wash off. calling for “optics” is just concern trolling. people are hearing about it. that’s the point. fuck oil. keep up the messaging. people are going to starve and drown and bleed from war caused by climate change. we are gonna survive a few people yeeting nonpermanent shit at public art.

that said if any FOSS devs want to make an app for categorizing and tagging memes outside the camera roll so i can use it for its intended purpose i will volunteer a (consensual) kiss on the forehead

is not rcs simply another locked down standard under the thumb of google, which they have decided to limit and block on rooted devices in the past?

correct me if im wrong ? but this all seems like a freight train of no good barelling in. google propoganda has won out and we’re swapping one gatekept standard for another.

This is a silly post with silly implications, even though I appreciate its rhetorical goals

The really c/mildlyinfuriating fact is there are more empty homes in the US than homeless.

Based on currently available numbers, there are about 31 vacant housing units for every homeless person in the U.S. src

You don’t even need to involve churches. You need to hold individuals and businesses who hoard real estate for profit accountable. (There is also the matter of the logistics of getting homeless people into those homes, but I will not dive into that here.)

I appreciate the sentiment of this post, but please be sure to check your predetermined biases before you use the text of this meme to inform your opinion on policy.

misleading headline, and it’s not even close.

“residents beg mayor”

no they didn’t. the article doesn’t cite one singular instance of a resident asking the mayor to stop the eclipse. what it does cite is an off hand, likely facetious/joke comment by said mayor in relation to a bridge that is under construction.

of course, this fact didn’t stop the author from running with this absolute lie, the media entity from publishing the deception, and most of the comments here are falling for the perversion of truth and are clowning on and smearing an entire township.

pardon me if this comment is overly serious. i get this is a satire-of-satire community but holy smokes we need to have better standards for our media. if they can get away with this white lie, imagine what they do every other day when lives are on the line.
