I normally like Adam, but this is a dumbass take for a number of reasons. Let me name the ones just on the top of my head:

1. EVs can operate anywhere in the world, and skip the energy dependent bonds of neighboring countries (politics)
2. You can have a solar install on your home and offset the costs of charging, so it's essentially free, AND better for the environment (sustainability)
3. China literally stole all the designs from existing manufacturing processes and use those for their BYD cars. This has already been admitted to, and is a fact. They aren't "doing better", they are "making cheaper"
4. expounding on 3, they only make cheaper cars because of SLAVE LABOR. Unless other countries want to get back into the slavery business, you're not going to beat that price point.
5. "Western" car makers carry warranties with their product. China does not. AT.ALL. You buy it, you bought it. Read the fine print and realize that whatever BYD is claiming as a warranty only extends to cars within a certain radius of one of their dealerships, and not outside of China.

I can go on and on about this, but on headline alone, Adam fucked up her. What a stupid take.

Two reasons why this is just another bullshit claim:

1. Generalized robotics don't have any autonomy yet. They require immense amount of power to be mobile, and charging takes a lot of time. You'd need fleets to replace fleets upon fleets. Maybe 20m of runtime, and then the same for charging.

2. Everything needs to be trained for job-specific tasks. Repetitive work that does a single purpose is way easier than a robot with multiple jobs. Right now all these tech demos are simplistic at best, and only focus on single jobs.

Tesla's robot is a total scam, akin to a child's toy that reacts to certain things, and requires internet connectivity (wonder why???).

Boston Dynamics isn't even trying this noise, they know what their purpose is...military use.

Agility hasn't even demonstrated autonomy yet.

1X is maybe the closest, but again...single purpose.

Honda is basically off the map right now, but actually have the most advanced articulation platform.

It's a mess. Stop worrying about this shit and ignore the headlines for 5 years maybe.

People like this have fully infiltrated the US tech sector, and have been kicking and screaming about how the workers there aren't killing themselves for their jobs anymore. They have completely embraced classism and believe they are at the top of some imaginary tower or food chain that allows them to make idiotic statements like this. Anti-egalitarian at the core.

They've already stripped all the benefits of working in tech away from the workers, and are now complaining that the horse won't pull the cart anymore now that the carrot is gone. Pieces of shit.
