The ad is called ‘Limburger,’ a cheese known for its pungent odour

The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump PAC, released a foul ad doubling down on allegations that former president Donald Trump smells.

Claims around the former president’s alleged odour erupted earlier this week when former Illinois Republican representative Adam Kinzinger tweeted, “I’m genuinely surprised how people close to Trump haven’t talked about the odor. It’s truly something to behold. Wear a mask if you can.”

The Lincoln Project seized upon the resulting social media firestorm with a video advertisement on Saturday, with the caption: “Is that you Donald? #TrumpSmells.”

Of all the things that are likely to effectively separate him from his base, this is the best angle I think we've seen taken since 2015.

Appeals to their better nature haven't worked because they simply do not have one.

[-] rockSlayer@lemmy.world 104 points 1 year ago

He's also an egomaniac that can't handle even the smallest forms of mockery. Remember "baby hands"? It got under his skin like crazy. This could actually tank his campaign, even though it feels extremely childish for politics

[-] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 43 points 1 year ago

can't handle even the smallest

Are you saying his hands are small? I have it on his authority that trump has the biggest hands. Yuge. Such big hands you've never seen before. People tell me all the time, they say, "Donald has such big hands, I've never seen hands so large." I bet he could palm two basketballs at once. World leaders won't shake his hand because they're afraid their hands will look like tiny baby hands by comparison.

[-] tsonfeir@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

I bet those huge baby hands smell like baby shit

"I've had no complaints, believe me"

Which of course either means that he's lying, which he usually is when telling people to believe him, or being a rich, powerful, thin-skinned and impossible narcissist have stop people from complaining or insulting him to his face.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

from complaining or insulting him to his face.

the real question is how much air freshener do they go through?

[-] PinkPanther@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

tRump's the reason air freshener companies are not going bankrupt.

If logical political attacks don't work because his base is too fucking stupid to understand them, then use illogical ones against the fat, smelly, tiny-handed, well-done steak eating piece of orange crap traitor.

[-] Elderos@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yep! It is kind of funny too because petty insults is all they have, but they seem extremely sensible to them themselves. Trump has a nickname for virtually everyone, and they think it's the best thing ever, but point out that he's an insecure man wearing ungodly amount of makeup and they immediately get weirdly offended by it. "OrAnGe MaN bAd". The funny thing is, as Trump would say, there is a lot of subject matter with his overall presentation, ironically.

[-] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 23 points 1 year ago

But how many of his supporters have had covid so many times that they can’t smell shit if it’s up their own noses at this point?

[-] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Now I'm hopeful for the tiny hands campaign

[-] paddirn@lemmy.world 137 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It’s so stupidly petty and has nothing to do with what actually makes Trump a shitty candidate (the whole fascism and insurrection thing and everything else), but it will probably bother Trump the most out of anything precisely because of how self-conscious it’ll make him.

[-] carl_dungeon@lemmy.world 56 points 1 year ago

And I bet he fucking stinks.

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 year ago

Right? You know who often doesn't smell great? Old guys. Other people who sometimes stink include fat guys. And if you live in a hot, humid area you have to be more attentive to your hygiene.

Orange Dump is an obese geriatric living on swamp land, hitting the trifecta. I'd put good money on odds of his ass stanking something fierce.

[-] Baahb@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

You forgot about his diapers

[-] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

I've heard it from the best people.

[-] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

That's exactly my thoughts. Throughout the whole Trump candidacy and presidency, I've generally avoided criticism about what he looks like or the inconsequential things he does. If he were a decent president, or even a decent human being, it wouldn't matter about his orange skin, weird hair, strange posture, weird smell, fast food diet, or any of that kind of thing. It's the fact that he tried to overthrow the government, likely gave away or sold national secrets, raped women, installed cabinet members who intended to dismantle the organizations they were in charge of, etc. etc.

But ironically, he and his base are totally fine with those things, it's the inconsequential and superficial stuff that might actually cost him votes.

[-] dQw4w9WgXcQ@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I heard he has bad breath (this is an excellent tactic to make shitty people talk less).

It would be somewhat funny if that was his downfall instead of all the heinous, traitorous shit he did

[-] homesnatch@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

heinous, traitorous shit he did

Maybe he did it in his adult diaper and that's why he smells...

This is one of those headlines that reminds us of how deeply unserious the society we made is. We're throwing around playground insults because inciting a coup and causing mass desth through subpar covid measures made him MORE popular.

Im beggin people to realize Trump is not the endgame, the voters behind him are and they do not change, and will find a better smarter and more electable fascist to rally behind. Meanwhile the Dems have done nothing but try to stop 'Trump the individual', not 'Trump the culmination of fascist citizens desires'.

[-] Chocrates@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I like to say Trump is a symptom of what we let the GOP and DNC turn America in to.

[-] oatscoop@midwest.social 3 points 1 year ago

The GOP and DNC didn't do shit -- they're symptoms of complacency.

The uncomfortable truth is as a species we're tribalistic, short sighted, and selfish. The worst of us eventually find positions of power, and they'll use/create "crisises" to do so. None of this shit is new.

If half the people in the country are too fucking dumb to understand basic level stuff, we just gotta go to playground insults

That's the level of education we've got going on here. If it works to get a fascist out, fantastic. On the other hand, the Democrats are, in the end, no damn different from the Republicans. A bunch of racist old white people who don't actually care as long as they get their money. Both parties should be taken out and this should be more than a two party system

[-] crsu@lemmy.world 38 points 1 year ago

As funny as this is, The Lincoln Project wants to turn neoliberal democrats into DINO republicans since the GOP have been turning from neoconservativism into full on right wing dictators since the war on terror. They need the trickle down classic and the founder tried sucking up to AOC by saying he can be trusted because he believes in tipping the bartender.

[-] transmatrix@lemmy.world 53 points 1 year ago

You can be happy with the Lincoln Project for attacking Trump and still not support them…

Maybe he does. No idea personally. I do think there are worse things about him personally.

[-] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Remember when Alex Jones said Obama and Hillary were demons that literally smelled of sulfur? I can't get that out of my head. It's like people trying to trigger the smell memory mechanism to influence votes, doesn't ring true to me. Like even if he did smell bad sometimes, it's not like he literally can't be clean, he probably just doesn't shower sometimes and his assorted handlers don't call him on it or whatever. That could be bad practice as a world leader but it isn't a permanent thing like his opinions on immigrants and minorities are.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

You know, chances are, if he was using his bathroom for a document storage closet…. He probably wasn’t using it for bathing.

[-] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Wait a minute... if my top secret documents are in the bathroom... what's in my office safe... ?

Lynyrd Skynyrd should cash in on this.

(You know damn well that if Trump was in their shoes, he would.)

[-] MagicShel@programming.dev 12 points 1 year ago

I would send $100 cash to anyone slipping That Smell onto one of his campaign stop playlists. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Could be lucrative is all I'm saying.

[-] Letstakealook@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

I think you're on to something here. Somebody hit the sound booth at one of his events and play that shit as he walks out. It'll hit especially well with his boomer and x base.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump PAC, released a foul ad doubling down on allegations that former president Donald Trump smells.

Claims around the former president’s alleged odour erupted earlier this week when former Illinois Republican representative Adam Kinzinger tweeted, “I’m genuinely surprised how people close to Trump haven’t talked about the odor.

The Lincoln Project seized upon the resulting social media firestorm with a video advertisement on Saturday, with the caption: “Is that you Donald?

The ad begins with scenes of dumps, waste, and dung — with flies swarming around it — and is punctuated by a chorus of coughs, sniffles, and vomiting.

Then, while featuring the facade of Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue, a reporter’s voice booms, “Claiming the former president smells bad.”

Another posted a fake video of Mr Trump holding up a t-shirt that reads “I stink” with his mugshot on it, suggesting it could be a “last-minute stocking stuffer.”

The original article contains 362 words, the summary contains 153 words. Saved 58%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

[-] KingJalopy@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

There's at least a fucking million reasons to hate Donald Trump and this is the one they're focusing on? This is literally third grade politics. He smells bad!! Wake the fuck up America. We are being played at a level that equals us with children!! This is fucking asinine. I hate this motherfucker as much as anyone else but this is just goddamn ridiculous. Can we not dig up better dirt than he smells like shit? We know what kind of shit this man has done. We know it kind of shit this man will do and this is what we're going to focus on?

[-] moon@lemmy.cafe 2 points 1 year ago

As the online incels would say, that's "based"
