Have you heard of our lord and saviour Arch Linux BTW

[-] EmergMemeHologram@startrek.website 81 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

“Is that like Jesus?”

“No, it’s not like Christianity at all. Nobody who’s ever talked about Arch has ever gotten nailed”

[-] deathmetal27@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago

No, you're probably thinking of Temple OS.

[-] victorz@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

Speak for yourself! I got two kids goddammit! 😎😭🥲

What about burned on stake for witchcraft?

[-] vexikron@lemmy.zip 13 points 11 months ago

Obviously only real linux users use Void, you can tell because they have the best OS-Chan mascot.

[-] Bonehead@kbin.social 10 points 11 months ago

Nonsense...real linux users use Slackware. Why bother with all these fancy new distros when the original is still going strong?

[-] vexikron@lemmy.zip 10 points 11 months ago

Obligatory:

Real Linux users actually compile linux from scratch without a network connection and just the linux from scratch cd.

Get on the NixOS train, loser. Arch is too easy. /s

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 6 points 11 months ago
[-] onlinepersona@programming.dev 9 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Not entirely the same. nix is a build-tool, package manager and DSL. NixOS is the OS built on top of that. https://nixlang.wiki/ explains it

CC BY-NC-SA 4.0

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 3 points 11 months ago

I just think more people should use Nix packages

This was funny the first time I saw it, back when windows 10 came out.

[-] lurch@sh.itjust.works 27 points 11 months ago

it's still new for gentoo users who started installing that day and decided to go with openoffice from source.

I'll be honest at this point in my life anthing that pops up it gets a 1 simply for annoying me.

I'm never randomly recommending anything unless asked and if I do when asked specifically about it the app owners sure as shit don't need to know about it

[-] Meron35@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago

Would you like to rate our app?

❌Not now ❌Yes ✅Not ever

[-] Z3k3@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago

I think it's the fact that 3rd box rarely exists that has gotten me this way

[-] TxzK@lemmy.zip 5 points 11 months ago

The fact that these popups exists in the first place makes me angry

[-] neshura@bookwormstory.social 10 points 11 months ago

Honestly all the app owners need to know is why a customer is dissatisfied. If the app is actually good the recommendations will come naturally.

[-] Z3k3@lemmy.world 18 points 11 months ago

I don't disagree but when I get asked to give it a rating 2 mins after installing they can fick right off.

Thanks to bots and shills ratings mean nothing.

In most cases I just stop using something as its not as useful as i thought or just boring bugging me in this manner just makes me actively hate it.

[-] neshura@bookwormstory.social 9 points 11 months ago

Well yeah that's why the only sensible place for such a survey is in the uninstaller (no popup browser tab please) with a big fat "Skip" option. Let's people with actual feedback give that feedback while people who don't want to can skip. Corpo can then evaluate if the product lands well by the rate of installed/uninstalled/left feedback.

But yeah modern day surveys are absolute garbage and annoying in like 99/100 cases

[-] Z3k3@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

In the modern age it seems sensible has gone right out the window. It almost feels like it's your fault you hate their product rather than it being shit.

Information has lost all value and I just don't want to play anymore

[-] lobut@lemmy.ca 10 points 11 months ago

It's annoying when I start some software to get something done and it's asking me to do a survey. I'm in the middle of something! What's wrong with you?!

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

The survey is administered by a cat.

[-] doingthestuff@lemmy.world 21 points 11 months ago

This even funnier now that they've come full circle to shutting down Windows 10 - Our Last Operating System!

[-] tdawg@lemmy.world 20 points 11 months ago

Linux users aren't people ;)

I let a friend try out Linux after I've been using it for years and they were shocked how much easier some things are. I think the idea of throwing them into a like Windows distro is the wrong direction. I'm ready POP OS's new desktop whenever it comes out.

[-] mrmanager@lemmy.today 3 points 11 months ago

This is the reaction I get from people too. :)

[-] KuroeNekoDemon@sh.itjust.works 10 points 11 months ago

Man I really like OpenSUSE Tumbleweed with KDE you all should try it

[-] agent_flounder@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

It's been a hot minute since I ran SuSE (before it was OpenSuSE) but since I'm distrohopping lately I might have to give it a go.

[-] 21Cabbage@lemmynsfw.com 8 points 11 months ago

I don't have a PC right now but I'm a Mint guy.

[-] Jerkface@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

"1994 or 2024" for 200$, Alex.

[-] Steve@startrek.website 4 points 11 months ago

Both, obviously

[-] ghostblackout@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Yes pop!_OS is ok I don't like it that much but it is a good distro

[-] Rognaut@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

You guys should try Kali Linux with KDE Plasma. I'm really enjoying it. It's so easily customizable.

[-] DickFiasco@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

Ok I installed Kali now how do I hack?

[-] amotio@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

I have recently started using KDE and so far i like it after years of XFCE on slower pc. And every now and then I think about switching to some debian based distro but AUR spoiled me and now I am too lazy. Its great that with my setuo I can change distros and have working OS in under an hour with all my software already setup.

Causally recommending linux and shutting down inane tech support questions aren't the same thing. If I get asked: "X feature stopped working in the newest macOS. What do I do?" I tell them the truth: "I switched to linux to get the feature back."

[-] rockhandle@lemm.ee 3 points 11 months ago

I feel called out here lol. Granted, I've only recommended it to people I know who complained about the performance of windows. Linux is so much more optimised
