Aside from a few MAGA shit lords in political forums, I haven't really seen the hand of the moderators in action. Most of what I seen, people are rather chill and well behaved.
I'm extremely new here but I've gone through many communities and posts.. and I'm blown away by the overall respect ppl are showing each other. Totally love that.
Like any forum this community has a lot of quirks and problems but overall I dig it here. At its core federated social media seems to be the best solution to a host of issues with the modern internet, imo.
Aye. I'm not even sure I had heard the term or seen it discussed elsewhere in my online travels. I'm digging it too.
I wish you a warm welcome to the Fediverse! Your contributions to keeping discussions genuine, fun and interesting, and reporting excessively toxic behaviour will be much appreciated.
That was my first reaction when I moved over about a year ago. Much less overall aggression.
I've seen several waves of spamming, weirdly enough mostly hyper specific local businesses from India or the Philippines. Like, best my leather finishing tool in Hyderabad.
There's some jackass that makes a new account every day to post something racist in one of the Science Meme communities. Must be a full time job to moderate.
Never moderated on Lemmy, but it is definitely a full time job. There's so much to handle that the other users never even see.
Politics.
As much as i can tell this !politics@lemmy.world community is the most solicited indeed.
Yerp
Getting some great numbers tho assuming they're not all bots
lol.. look at my modlog. One mod disliked my comment, decided to ban me from multiple communities, all of which I haven't even commented on, or at least to my knowledge I haven't. Those kinds of, "mods" are bad for Lemmy, imo.
I'd say it's pretty predictable and comes in waves as issues come up.
For example some people from exploding-heads posting rightwing content outside their instance before they were widely defederated.
Another example is when illegal content was being posted in large communities and Lemmy.world started blocking users from posting/commenting using a VPN.
Other than that it's a lot of knowing your audience.
I was banned from a star trek thing because I didn't like the admins meme. Other than that its pretty cool. Some of my comments got removed in other places but in retrospect I can see why.
Tbh, the star trek instance is more of a ml lite instance than it is about star trek. I wouldnt worry about getting banned

i propose modlog comparison to elect the winner.
based on the time to produce the last 20 modlog entries (ok this is a weak criteria, i know) ... :
rank | Δt(20modlog) | community |
---|---|---|
1 | 24 hrs | !politics@lemmy.world |
2 | 6 days | !unpopularopinion@lemmy.world |
3 | 30 days | !science_memes@mander.xyz |
4 | 6 months | !startrek@lemmy.world |
