I would be proud to be fired for blatantly ignoring these laws, and it would give my students something tangible to practice their American civic duty of protest over.

Historically, this is an indicator that Mike DeWine is himself involved in some degenerate acts that he's ashamed of, and doesn't want anyone to be able to talk about. Keep an eye out for any "protect the children" rhetoric from this one. ¤.¤

Some of the worst offenders during the Lavender Scare were conservative gays themselves. Fuck them all with a rake.

Further proof that Ohio is terrible. Come to Michigan, we have inexpensive weed and beautiful lakes.

There's a reason it was Ünderland in Venture Bros.

[-] bizzle@lemmy.world 5 points 8 hours ago

if I've said it once I've said it 420 times, Michigan is indeed the promised land

[-] Shanedino@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

I have driven around michigan a lot for work i was very surprised by the unending sea of trump signs.

[-] Soggy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

That's the urban/rural divide, same thing in every state.

[-] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Excuse me, my flight was to Michigan but my luggage went to Michoacan!

Ohio and Florida are going to start the camps

[-] GlendatheGayWitch@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago

I'm pretty sure texas still has conversion camps, I'd be surprised if other states didn't still have them.

One-third of LGBTQ+ minors who were outed without their consent were more likely to experience depression, as well as face less support from their families, according to a study from the University of Connecticut. Two-thirds said that the event caused significant stress.

As someone who has experienced depressive episodes all my life (suicidal at 4th grade), I can’t imagine how this helps kids.

[-] flicker@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 hour ago

Suicidal at 4th? I was suicidal in 6th!

People don't get that we've lived different lives. Also, do you know less than one in ten of us makes it to adulthood? You're the first other one I've met!

Glad somebody made it!

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 hour ago

Also, do you know less than one in ten of us makes it to adulthood?

Oh, what really? Do you have a source you can point me to? That's super phenomenal if true. Cheers to us for surviving. I hope you're enjoying life.

[-] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

It helps kids... be the way we want them to be. And if they can't get with it, they were evil all along and deserve the suffering they experience.

That, or being LGBTQ is just a fad that kids adopt because they think it'll make them cool, so by banning its teaching, we can protect kids from that unnatural way of life.

That's their thought process. They don't understand it, so they think it must be bad, and teaching it to kids must be corrupting them.

Ah yes, the most historically successful way of getting rid of cool fads...banning them...

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 hour ago

It's like David Cross said years ago when they were pushing "it's a choice." I think I'll choose this thing that gets me harassed and beat up. Not many people making that choice.

[-] beefbot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 16 hours ago

This is how it starts. I guess they won’t need actual concentration camps since they’ll just put us in prison & then use us for free slave labor

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

People keep telling me they aren't going to march queer kids into conversion therapy. They don't have to. All they have to do is make it a condition in order to go to school and then step up truancy punishments.

I hope you aren’t from Ohio

[-] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 55 points 20 hours ago

Can I just shout it across the border?

[-] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 9 points 13 hours ago

You should set up a sound system and blare it across the border Panama style.

[-] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 28 points 19 hours ago

I hate living in a red state.

Censorship is definitely dumb.

On top of the even more obvious bullshit.

[-] gnomesaiyan@lemmy.world 7 points 14 hours ago

So much for freedom of speech. This is the beginning of the end.
