One-third of LGBTQ+ minors who were outed without their consent were more likely to experience depression, as well as face less support from their families, according to a study from the University of Connecticut. Two-thirds said that the event caused significant stress.

As someone who has experienced depressive episodes all my life (suicidal at 4th grade), I can’t imagine how this helps kids.

Suicidal at 4th? I was suicidal in 6th!

People don't get that we've lived different lives. Also, do you know less than one in ten of us makes it to adulthood? You're the first other one I've met!

Glad somebody made it!

Sorry, I’m curious what the “us” here is? I had my first suicidal ideation in 4th grade as well.

As a kid/teen I never thought I’d live past 30. Not necessarily by my hand, but I just felt so sure there was a cut off point for me. Yet I did and I’m still here.

Oh, what really? Do you have a source you can point me to? That's super phenomenal if true. Cheers to us for surviving. I hope you're enjoying life.

I don't have the book on me at the moment but I will attempt to find it when I am more sober.

It helps kids... be the way we want them to be. And if they can't get with it, they were evil all along and deserve the suffering they experience.

That, or being LGBTQ is just a fad that kids adopt because they think it'll make them cool, so by banning its teaching, we can protect kids from that unnatural way of life.

That's their thought process. They don't understand it, so they think it must be bad, and teaching it to kids must be corrupting them.

Ah yes, the most historically successful way of getting rid of cool fads...banning them...

It's like David Cross said years ago when they were pushing "it's a choice." I think I'll choose this thing that gets me harassed and beat up. Not many people making that choice.
