My biggest goal is to get a new band together. After moving across the country in 2021, I have desperately missed writing, recording, and most of all, performing.
Kill the Batman
I resolve to give up New Year’s resolutions. It’s too god damn much pressure.
Unfortunately now that I’ve made my resolution, I can’t figure out - did I succeed or fail at keeping my resolution?🤔
Someone I knew told me that instead of making resolutions, they used the new year to review the last year, and then maybe adjust their ongoing goals in response. Seems way more useful to me. I've done it a bit, and it gives more of a sense of direction/velocity, and less opportunity for guilty failure.
Drink even less alcohol than last year (and I cut way back last year, too)
To remember to make resolutions next year
Same as last year and the year before.
Tryna not drink so much, starting with Sober January. I've been drinking heavily after an incredibly rough year of personal BS, and I need a break from it to get my head on straight.
Try to be able to comfortably run a half marathon. This time last year I set the same goal but for 10k and I've definitely hit that goal, but want to go further.
My resolution is fuck it
All of it?
(Seriously, that's actually a good resolution if you have anxiety)
Maybe, we'll see.
To either finish projects or cancel them and move on. No more lingering crap.
Slow down, live in the present, and enjoy who and what I already have in my life. That includes being more forgiving to myself and others, worrying less about all of the possible things I could be doing (personally and professionally) and instead choosing one thing at a time to focus my energy on, and being more aware of my own thoughts and feelings, then expressing them in a healthy way.
To do dry January at least. Been drinking way too much lately
To only focus on what I can impact locally and build out more mutual aid.
Get more blowjobs
I plan to cause more chaos.
None of these have Jan 1 as the start date, but...
- I'm getting laid off, so getting a new job is top priority.
- Continue improving my physical fitness by being more consistent in my running and strength training. I cancelled my gym membership a little over a year ago, and have been struggling with consistency ever since.
Running outside is so much more enjoyable than running on a treadmill, but I struggle to get myself moving when it's too cold/wet/dark/hot/sunny outside. - I deleted Windows and installed Linux Mint on my "primary" laptop, and it's good enough for my basic needs, but I want to spend some time getting more comfortable with more complicated things, as I've already run into a few tasks that I had to either give up on or switch to a different device for.
It's stereotypical, but I want to continue getting fit.
After decades is putting it off, I finally felt inspired to start exercising regularly back in September. I'm going to try to keep that up, and I know it's going to be hard because we'll be welcoming a child into the world early in the new year.
I guess another resolution would be, "try not to lose my sanity dealing with a newborn and toddler at the same time."
Get better at my art.
I'd like to travel more this year. I have a list of places I'd like to see.
- Fremont Street in Las Vegas
- Hawaii
- Big Ben
- Akihabara
- A sunlit beach
Now that I have steady work, I can finally afford these things.
A sunlit beach? Is this different from a normal beach during the day
More poetic?
Nah, maybe just a normal beach
I would also like to do more organizing, politically.
I don't really do resolutions, but I'm looking forward to 2025 being a (hopefully) better year. I've already started a few things but I have a lot on my sort of to-dos.
- Find a new place to live
- Finalize divorce
- Focus on healthier foods, better habits
- Take my dog to a wide open beach and let him run
- Take back my independence
- Hope and pray the new political administration is more incompetent than they want to be
- Focus on my friends and found family, be a good person
The future holds so much right now and while I'm still struggling to feel optimistic, I do get the small tingles of hope now and again.
Do more voice training.
Just to do good to people and stop being so negative to others.
I've given up on trying to figure out other people. I seldom get it right in trying to understand where others are coming from, what they are thinking, what they want, or in figuring out what they are really saying. I'm middle aged now and at this point in my life, I'm not bothering much to figure out what the other person wants ... if you can't make it clear, it's not my job to figure it out. I'm open to different opinions, ideas, genders, identities, races or ways of living but I get tired trying to understand someone new who can't make themselves clear.
So from now on, I just treat everyone with kindness and patience.
This also doesn't mean I'm going to roll over and let people abuse me or take advantage of me. I'm not that gullible and I won't take any right wing rhetoric, hatred or fear mongering.
Just a hunch with no evidence, but I suspect that this might be a bit circular, and that by giving up and being kinder and more patient, you might get better at understanding people.
Very good resolution (even if I'm wrong)!
Talk less
Smile more
focus on myself and my art and my programming, get better at it, become popular!!! and give people valuable and good lessons, and stop eating junk food
Nothing. I never reach anything anyways.
The only thing I want to reach are my toes. This year I'm going to try to increase my flexibility.
New Years Resolutions are a complete and total waste of time and energy. If you want to improve an aspect of you life, just do it. An arbitrary date on a calendar isn't going to make that more or less likely to succeed.
It is going to make you more likely to consider resolutions though.
